Description Someone willing to help me? The submitting takes hours because the file is 40.31 MB big ... and I have no clue why it is so big. Graaaah.
I saved it in TIFF with a dpi of 300 and then edited ... because it took so long, I cropped it and converted it to JPG and then it worked a lot better ... so difficult and confusing.
Does TIFF make your files even bigger?

Not as happy as the other one, but I still like it.

you've probably already been helped, but yes tiffs are huge compared to jpgs and pngs...i may add Jpgs loose alot to particalization....which is why i am beginning to start use pngs.

But png's don't work too well for photos.

yeah i know >_> jpg's work fine if they're not saved often on photos, because they substantially increase pixilization the more you save them...

Can I ask something?I've seen that in both pictures you cover you lips...is this done because of the tortellini(still don't get it)thing you've said in the journal?
Anyway even if it's not as happy as the other,it's still awesome!!!

What I do is capture in RAW, edit it, then save it as a TIFF. It is best quality at this stage to print it. From there I save a version for web, but 2 things you need to do is convert the colour profile to sRGB (I am not sure what GIMP uses for RAW/TIFF) and then resize (as above I save to a max 800px horizontal). You will then hopefully get a reasonable quality image for web.
Lovely pic as always... and I love your shirt. I miss European fashion.

NikolasBrummer In reply to sydneyq [2011-05-27 17:31:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot!
Towards the resizing ... is the quality worse if I just leave them this big?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sydneyq In reply to NikolasBrummer [2011-05-27 23:25:17 +0000 UTC]

You have more control over the quality of the image you will see online. If you do the resizing yourself, you will be able to see what your online version will look like. To be honest I haven't seen a major difference however when uploading you will notice the difference! 40mb compared to 300kb. Unless you are uploading for prints. Changing the colour profile is way more important though... the wrong colour profile will make your image look heaps different online compared to on your pc... convert to sRGB for web yourself for sure!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NikolasBrummer In reply to sydneyq [2011-05-28 05:38:15 +0000 UTC]

I guess it's already on sRGB, but I am not sure. How do I change it?
Thanks a lot for your help.

sydneyq In reply to NikolasBrummer [2011-05-28 08:21:30 +0000 UTC]

Ok when you shoot in RAW it saves the file in it's own colour space. When you edit it, it should convert it into a colour space (the two most popular being Adobe RGB 1998 or sRGB). See here for the difference [link]
I usually edit using Adobe RGB so I get the most out of the colours and then convert to sRGB when converting from TIFF to JPEG.
(Adobe RGB for print, sRGB for web)

TIF/TIFF files are bigger than JPG/JPEG files, but it is because they don't condense as much.

Cavalleria [2011-05-22 17:42:01 +0000 UTC]

TIFF files don't let images degrade with editing. I think they save all the information from that editing session, much like a RAW file saves all the photos from a shot. While editing I would recommend using a TIFF file but once you've finished and plan on uploading it convert it to JPEG and it should be much smaller.

Something else that I just realized: You don't use a watermark. You might want to start using one, especially if you are uploading your photos to sites other than dA.

I am not sure, watermarks always ruin my pictures.

You know what's interesting? Sometimes when you allow download, and don't use a watermark, I think it's more unlikely people will steal your work. Seems thieves like to take the risk. I don't do those either and I never got anything stolen though I think that's up to the artist to decide. Just wanted to share my experience

I already had a painting scanned in .tiff reach 400MB (it was like 1200dpi or something), so you are not alone my friend
Also, the max dA allows is 30MB, so it would not work anyway. Well, lovely picture there!<33

Yeah, I usually save in both .psd and .jpg, because JPEG is internet friendly, but I can make sure I don't lose any information with Photoshop format. : )
