stranger 03; some street in Pempelfort, Düsseldorf (Germany); 17th of July, 2012“I really think I’ll actually do this project.”, I said as Rosa and I walked down these streets to find our way to the tram. “It’s way too much fun to not do it.” One train passed us and someone got out of it, capturing both Rosa’s and my eyes. “Do you want to continue it just now?”, Rosa asked with a smile and within a few seconds, we ran after the girl to ask her. I hope we didn’t bother her with it, I suppose she was just about to go somewhere. “I’m really not photogenic.”, she had said, but I doubt that by now. I really do. That is something so many people say, maybe eventually it’s just because they don’t want you to be disappointed with the outcome. Maybe we should just stop worrying about such things and take a little weight off our own shoulders.

das einzige was mich an strangers projekten immer stört ist, dass die leute durchnummeriert werden...
ja klar, sie sind fremde, aber ich finde ihnen nummer zu geben ist irgendwie unmenschlich

ja ich weiß, irgendwie klingt das grob. aber im Endeffekt ist es ja auch wahr, weil es ist ja nicht so, als würden wir mit diesem Foto den Menschen wirklich kennen - wir kennen nur etwas an ihm, einen Ausschnitt, und er bleibt uns fremd, aber vielleicht ermöglichen uns solche Fotos, in sie reinzugucken. Wenn du weißt, was ich meine.

und da hast du recht, du kennst fast nichts an dem menschen..
wie reagieren eigentlich die meisten leute darauf, wenn du fragst, ob du sie fotografieren darfst?

naja, also, für dieses Projekt hatte ich erst drei Leute gefragt, und zwei davon waren sogar zusammen unterwegs, also hab ich noch nicht so eine Reaktionsvielfalt. Aber ich hatte letztes Jahr bei so einem Kurs auch schon Street Fotografie geübt und wir mussten zu Fremden gehen und sie auch ansprechen, also weiß ich eigentlich, dass die Leute generell nichts dagegen haben. Manche Leute sagen, dass sie total schrecklich gerade aussehen und sind ein wenig schüchtern, andere sind total nett und aufgeschlossen und plaudern mit dir danach und davor, aber nein gesagt hat wirklich noch niemand. Perplex sind sie alle, geschmeichelt auch irgendwo, weil es ja bestimmt ein tolles Gefühl ist, fotografiert zu werden, weil man "so heraussticht".

Du solltest vielleicht mal Visitenkarten für dich anfertigen lassen, die kannst du den Leuten dann geben, damit sie sich ihre Fotos von dir zuschicken lassen können.

Das ist eine Idee, ich werde mal drüber nachdenken und das mit meinen Eltern besprechen.

Ich hab bei Vistaprint für 200 Karten (langt ja erstmal, ist ein rieeesen Stapel!) 45€ bezahlt und das war nur so viel, weil beide Seiten Auf Vollfarbe waren.

Ich bin mir immer nicht so ganz sicher ob man sich da nur auf eins beschränken kann.
Ich teile dir immer gerne meine Meinung mit, du gibst das Gefühl dass sie dir wichtig ist.

Hm, dann wohl eher Schicksal. Ich hab vor den Ferien dieses Buch gelesen, der Alchemist von Paulo Coelho, und jetzt habe ich irgendwie gefallen daran gefunden, zu denken, die Dinge würden so passieren, weil es das Schicksal von jedem einzelnen ist. Und die Welt schickt uns Zeichen, auf die wir einfach nur hören müssen und sie für uns richtig deuten müssen. Falls du das Buch nicht kennst, ich empfehle es dir.

Und anregende Bücher sind etwas ganz ausgezeichnetes - und leider selten zu finden in letzter Zeit.

Mal wieder ein besonderes Portrait von einem Fremden. Ich finde, dass du ihre Persönlichkeit sehr gut "einfangen" konntest. Sie strahlt so etwas aus, das man nicht genau beschreiben kann. Zurückhaltung und doch eine gewisse Direktheit. Sehr gut gemacht.

Es freut mich, dass du sie so einschätzt, weil genau so wirkte sie auch auf mich und weißt du, es wäre schade, wenn ich die Menschen im Endeffekt nicht so einfangen würde, wie sie wirken, weil das ist wichtig. Maybe...if you're really interested in someone, everyone becomes photogenic, 'cause everyone is beautiful. What I like most about your project is the fact that you're capturing people we pass by every day on the streets, often not thinking a second about them or their lives, and we almost never look in the eyes of strangers. But maybe, just maybe...
Maybe we all are so much closer to each other than we learned to believe, and possibly Germany's not such a cold place like I used to believe at all. We can make a difference, and you started a great journey. And thank Rosa that she pushed you a little bit to capture this girl!

Such things are important. I've noticed people often preach such behavior, but never realize themselves to live after it; that we should appreciate what is around us and that we should try to find the beauty in such things. That is important. And this way, every place can be beautiful in a way. Lovely beautiful, devastatingly beautiful, sadly beautiful ... but beautiful in the end.
