He is said to be prone to violence, verbal and physical abuse, and, save for his superiors, Iskander shows no respect for his fellow comrades. He has learnt to muzzle his pride to follow orders blindly, to the point of fulfilling his duties with the most blunt and callous ways, leaving little place for compassion. He used to be a more decent fellow with a keen sense of loyalty and responsibility, and the only trait that remains unchanged is his taste for beautiful things - he is still an esthete valuing beautiful forms of art, and especially music. As for now, his family's rejection is wearing him down, making him even more unstable and predisposed to violent outbursts. His desperate attempts to justify his choices and actions fall short and yet he still clings to his misled life goal, unwinding his frustration either on others or on himself. Much like a broken machinery, he feels purposeless without his family's support.

ϔ Past story:

Iskander was born and raised in a family of humble artists living within Wall Maria. His father was a luthier and his mother was famous for her intricate wood-carving inspired by their long lost north-african culture. Thanks to some noble families' interest into their craft, they could make a fairly decent living despite living by the outermost Wall. Iskander, his younger brother Almas and his baby sister Lamis grew up learning how to craft instruments and play them – Almas was the most talented of the three, and wished to earn the privilege of being part of the King’s court as a musician. Iskander was planning on becoming a wood-carver, feeling more encline to work on his own in the quiet basement where his mother would work everyday, while his little sister would watch and learn instrument making from their father.

Unfortunately, when the Titans attacked the Walls, the Ibn Nadir family was caught in the middle of the disaster, and even though none of them was directly menaced by Titans, they ended up trapped inside their house by rocks blocking their only way out. Iskander’s younger brother was badly hurt and nearly got his hands completely torn off by fallen rubbles. When the legions came by to rescue them and help them evacuate, they were out there to witness the armored titan’s appearance. Iskander felt terrified and realized with awe that even the Wall Rose wouldn’t be enough to feel perfectly safe after these events. Since that day, and despite his fairly advanced age, he became obsessed with the Walls security and chose to join the Military, not to avenge the people or retrieve his lands, but to make sure that his family, and especially his impaired younger brother, would be allowed to live behind the Wall Sinna, where he believed they'd find proper medical care and security.

His only priority during this time in the trainee squad was to be in the top 10, enough to provide access to the innermost Wall for his family. His tenacity, exceptional visual acuity and apparently dehumanized compliance to orders were noticeable, just as much as his terrible flaws as a team mate and average 3D Gear maneuver. Some says his obsession for success was possibly the reason why one of the alumni striving for the top 10 got severely injured. Their rivalry was a well-known fact, so it was easy to think that Iskander could have been the one to sabotage the trainee's equipment that caused him to fall from a 8 meters high tree, costing him his place in the classment as well as the full use of a leg. Iskander remained silent and scorfully unsympathetic the whole time, aware that his claiming to be innocent wouldn't help since most of the squad despised him anyway. Even though there was not enough evidences to charge him, he still is notorious among the Military for being an unstable, overambitious man, to the point of being considered a better man-slayer rather than a titan-slayer.
His family eventually heard of his disastrous reputation, and felt somewhat confused about this sudden change, even more so when he came back for the first time from the trainee camp. Iskander was hoping for gratitude and praise - he found only uneasiness, silence and anguished stares. Gradually, the confusion turned into bitterness and rejection as his siblings, and especially Almas, started implying that they had never asked for a place within the Inner City if it had to cost him his dignity. Iskander, obsessed with the Military Police and yet hateful of his legion, felt extremely lost upon hearing his family's distressed concern. His only reaction was to storm out of his parent's new house to isolate himself, unable to handle his disappointment and feeling of abandonment. Then he decided to avoid them as much as possible, only paying short visits to his distant brother and paying the rent for his parents' new workplace. This sudden alienation only made him even more insecure and isolated. He is currently making timid attempts at finding a solution to his anxiety issues, being fully aware of his fading lucidity.

- Upward mobility : after the destruction of the gate of Wall Maria, he felt the urge to secure his family in what he believed to be the safest place left, hence his struggle to join the Military Police.
- Order : Iskander believes in the system's stability as long as he can take advantage of it. He is obedient and loyal to the Legion and never complains about tedious tasks such as tax collection and escorting Nobles here and there. He'd gladly be part of the firing squad in charge of executing traitors and deserters if given the chance.

Iskander was playing the violin, standing by the window, his hand holding the bow firmly, maybe too firmly, drawing deep and melancholic notes as his eyes were shut. Shut not to see the deadly silence wrapping the rest of the house, not to see his brother not far from him, half-sat on his bed, probably still gazing at the lifeless hands he used to play the violin with. Iskander wasn’t sure if playing for him was a comfort or a torture. He couldn’t bring himself to ask, so he kept playing instead of talking, hurting and mending at the same time his brother’s deepest wound. That was how their new home was, now. Less joy, less words, more pain. Iskander, as he was still playing, knew this would be his last attempt. He knew that in a couple minutes maybe, the wooden bow would slip away from the cords and make an ugly sound, but not as ugly as the face he would make – a face of anger and bitterness as he would storm away from the house, ignoring his sister’s calling, ignoring his father’s quiet gesture to hold him back and his dear mother’s all-knowing dark eyes. He would leave and ignore once again the fact that all of this was his fault and his greatest pride, and that this suave perfume of security was, after all, nothing but a lie.
