I'll have to agree with DinowCookie  here, it's cool to see how you've made something not traditionally scary into something so frightening.
Also, I clicked on this not realizing it would be animated, it gave me a good fright. Just splendid gallery all in all. You have a new watcher.

Hope you enjoyed the scare!

Ahh this is great! Especially because you don't normally see a seahorse being pictured as scary and dark. Most of the time they're associated with beauty and cuteness. Love it

Thanks, they're odd little creatures. I thought a big one might make a good sea monster.

Does it really exist the "safety" anywhere?, as everything else, it's just an illusion... I like the general concept (of course!) and the whole animation aswell, but what I liked the most was the eclipse on the moon (it gives the sensation of a ritual for the creature or so).

Very well done.

nilwilnil In reply to Guihena [2016-08-21 23:30:09 +0000 UTC]

I think more specifically, safety might be a delusion nowadays.

I think someone else mentioned the ritualistic aspect of this somewhere. Maybe on that original version, not sure.
I'm still figuring out animation. I have lots of ideas, just not the hardware or programs or knowledge to do them.

Guihena In reply to nilwilnil [2016-08-22 03:14:58 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you're right.

Same problem here, I'm not using the programs that I need to, and of course, the lack of knowledge to work them it's a bit of the issue... but if I have to be honest, it's the lack of free time the main part of the problem, so, well, what can I do with that?...

We'll move forward on the subject when we need it... for sure!.

Iskaeldt [2016-05-21 07:47:51 +0000 UTC]

Love it. I often had the feeling, especially when I'm swimming in a lake or being on a boat somewhere that there must be a spirit in the water/ under me... or somekind like a seamonster (maybe because I've heard all that yarn).
Force of Nature... however. It's a mysterious picture and animation! Love how the sea horse build just a tale/mountains with his head. We still now better the space above us than the abysses of our oceans. (:

nilwilnil In reply to Iskaeldt [2016-05-22 07:39:53 +0000 UTC]

Mysteries above and below, I'm not sure which holds more secrets. Of course, humans often create horror stories to explain the unknown. The sea serpents and giant squid that once ate ships and sailors have become aliens and UFOs that abduct and probe us, some think control us. But the oceans and lakes are closer to home and harder to see into, so I think that might cause more anxiety for most of us.

Love it! It's sort like a bad dream to me. Something in this picture is making me feel sad and nostalgic, but I can't really point it out, can't say why I'm feeling about it this way. Definitely love it.

The stars falling are so beautiful. Sad too but I guess I feel sad and beautiful are linked sometimes...

For a while I was preoccupied with thoughts about distance.... and tranquility.Storms from a distance...or like looking over a grassy field rippling in the wind. It seems soothing and calm, but looking closer you would see weeds choking the life out of one another ... insects fighting and killing and eating ... and all sorts of other nastiness. The world could be at war but from space the planet would still be a beautiful blue pearl....
The Stars falling here remind me of that (.... the ship being digested ) It is like beauty at the end of everything.

(sorry if my responses are a little late I have been awayish the last week and a half .... we decided to buy a new TV and, it had to be delivered .... so I have been cleaning and trying to hide everything and pretend I am not horrible.... now it seems we may need an exchange so .... more cleaning.... people in our house .... ack ...no one but Joe and I have been inside for about 8 years..... pathetically it has taken a lot of effort and energy and still more is required. )

nilwilnil In reply to Chobek [2016-05-13 05:41:11 +0000 UTC]

I like the idea of this, but I need to work on my technical skills. All in all the image is pretty much what I intended. Studying seahorse anatomy was fun :]
Beauty makes me sad a lot too, maybe because it's details, or its substrata, are often a let down. On the other hand, sorrow can be beautiful for just the opposite reason. I expect less of it so I am sometimes pleasantly surprised. I have other thoughts on the matter , but . . .
You're not horrible, horrible people don't get new TVs!!! Mine won't last much longer, I can barely read movie credits on it anymore. But, I don't pay attention to it the way I used to , so it's good enough. I'm the only person I know with a two foot deep television anymore
Glad all is well.

Chobek In reply to nilwilnil [2016-05-13 07:09:48 +0000 UTC]

(hehehe .... I should be cleaning... but I can't breath so I am putting it off... and I'm lazy... ) well the TV it is replacing was thick....it was the last projection Sony made... this new one is heavy and awkward... people coming in the house is sending me into panic mode .... but It will be worth it I think... eventually...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sadness and beauty..... I think for me the two are linked because sad seems- deep and passive and vulnerable ... it is still, unlike anger,  so it draws me into empathy...... and that is a form of love I think.... and love is beautiful......

Anger seems sexy...

Joy seem a little stupid

fear is kinetic

he he he
I am off to clean....

nilwilnil In reply to Chobek [2016-05-14 01:07:43 +0000 UTC]

Cleaning can be - scary, angry, sad, sometimes sexy, probably smart, definitely kinetic. The results can be - beautiful and joyful

Chobek In reply to nilwilnil [2016-05-14 19:22:10 +0000 UTC]

LOL it was only scary , angry and sad, maybe chaotic (which is kinetic.)....didn't get to the results part---- before quitting.

It was hard.
So I drew something instead.

hmmm.... for some reason this was initially choppier for me on both my iPad and my macbook.... I will check other sources later.....-update- maybe it is a bottleneck with me and my service.... it seems to be playing smoothly now

------
adding the Big Dipper asterism (wikipedia makes me choose my words carefully) .... is that like a Siren leading the ship to "safety? " ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nilwilnil In reply to Chobek [2016-05-15 07:37:27 +0000 UTC]

Asterism, cool, I didn't know that designation. I figured it was one of the more recognizable asterisms, so I used it.
Plus, I thought it funny that the ladle is dipping into the ocean. I considered the siren-like effect of it too, but as an afterthought.

I'm not sure I like it hanging out there like that, it ascribes too much importance to it. It might be confusing the image. Also, I want to either flatten out the mountain some to deaccentuate it, or accentuate it more by adding another layer of fade to his submerged parts. Delay the reveal some, you know?

Or, I should just move on. Make another version with a water bear www.google.com/search?q=water+…  to tie in with the Ursa Major theme too. That would make more sense :]

As for the animation, I figured out a few things and fixed them. Nothing to do with your devices, it was just crap before. Photoshop is a bit of a learning process for a computard hehe like me, especially animating with it.
