the best theory i have heard is that they are not related by blood. when equestria was founded, each tribe had a ruling family that shared power. when the royal sisters saved the land from discord the three families amalgamated into one "royal family" with the royal sisters as the defacto family matriarchs. so blueblood and cadence were born into this royal family, every member of whom had referec to celestia as "aunt".
