Top left we have D1- Selena (F), under her is D8- Nim (F), to their right is D3- Data (M) and then D23- Nyla (F). Under Nyla is D27- Dex (M), then D2- Ummi (F).

Selena is 36 years old, and her brother, Data, is 51! Data is the oldest male in D Pod.

Selena has problems conceiving children and has had 5 failed pregnancies. The only calves of hers to survive birth are 22 year old Ummi, and 15 year old Nim.

Luckily Ummi hasn't inherited any problems and she has had two successful pregnancies resulting in 7 year old Nyla and 2 year old Dex.
While Nim is old enough, she has not had any calves yet.

Researchers only started studying this pod within the last 20 years, so they have had to guess the ages of Selena and Data. Because Selena has had no more calves after Nim, they believe she was about 40 when she gave birth making her post-menopause, estimating her current age to be 55 years old! 19 years over her actual age.

Through an old photograph, researchers were able to ID Data, estimating his age close to his real age.

This is Researchers favourite matriline in D Pod, as it consists of a very old male and (what they believe is) an old female. Ummi's children live in an intact, ideal family unit with a Mother, Aunty, Grandmother and Great-Uncle.
