Description
This is a two page spread, pages two and three of a short comic book that I had on the back burner for a while. The narration from Donatello which is missing would be added to the upper left corner of the spread.I wanted to go for the old school look of volume one so I did some toneing to mimic that.
All and all, I'm pleased with it and eventually this story will be complete with dialogue and narration added I just can't say when.
Enjoy.
**Note** If you go to download image on the left side you can get the full res image and see the tones much better.

The effect you have used to make that light shine down through the sewer grating is phenomenal. This looks really professional and polished overall. I hope you do more TMNT stuff!
XOXO

Well, I don't think I could stay away from TMNT even if I wanted to. It's very much a part of me.
The tones were achieved by doing various shades of gray in Photoshop and going into image>mode>bitmap to get the dot pattern.
Thanks for the comment.

Thanks bro. I'm sure I've discussed this with you before but I just did my normal grayscaleing and then changed it to bitmap which gives it that dotted look.

Yeah, maybe you can guess but one of my favorite TMNT visual motifs is them walking right beneath the street with the sunlight shining through the storm drain cover.

That is a neat effect and it allows for dynamic lighting. One could look at it in a way that the surface is almost like a heaven or a utopia with it's rays of light shining down into the dark depressing hell beneath. Of course the TMNT find out that the world of man isn't as wonderful as they thought. Yeah, anyway, The problem I find with sewer scenes in particular is that there is very little light so It's hard to light up the scene accurately. Comic books however are pretty forgiving in most cases.

Exactly what I find beautiful about the concept.
Actually... when the sun does shine -- depending on the size of the drain and the time of day, light can be pretty impressive for one used to darkness. Think of a "light entering a dark cave" effect.

It might actually be cool to impliment that into a story where the TMNT are able to venture to the surface for the vey first time witnessing and soaking up all of the wonders from up above. That really doesn't have too much to do with light but sometimes my mind runs rampant with ideas. Being an artsit yourself, I'm sure you understand.

SWEET. Lanky Don and Leatherhead (Leatherhead! ) are cool enough, but the tones complete the comic book awesomeness. Nice work.

Thanks. I did do an experiment before I did this showing off my early attempts at toneing. I'll probably upload that as well at some point. It's very old school.

Although there's a lack of solid blacks like the earlier books had, I feel the toning gives it a nice old school touch and yes, I loved TMNT 4 as well. Contrary to what some people think, I believe the movie was a step in the right direction. Let's see if TMNT 5 happens.
Thanks

I sure hope it happens too ! Lack of solid blacks? No way. we would loose the lineart, something which we do not want right?

I guess your right about the solid blacks. Too much of it would make it hard to look at even though the old books sort of had that effect. I guess I really shouldn't worry about doing it their way, instead, I should do it my way.

Thanks. It seems to me that most TMNT fans crave the good ol' days when the stories used to be about being a mutant turtle teenager that used their ninja skills to combat the foot and other evil doers. Also, a lot of the seriousness that was in the older books has been lost by having too much weird sci-fi alien stuff in it. The grittiness has also been lost which is pretty sad.
Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah, I feel the same way. The tricerotons in the later comics were neat but thats around where it got to be a little much. But hey they had to keep the comic and tv series goin' I guess

Well, I guess it could be but if you're asking if it's official Tales work then the answer is no. It would be nice though.

The story behind this is pretty sad......well, not too terribly sad. It deals with Leatherhead reverting back to his primal self. Just think of a loved one or friend that doesn't know who you are anymore. It won't be a permanent thing though in this story.
Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, ever since I saw the movie I can't rip myself away from drawing the big hands and feet.
Haveing a massive gator coming your way is bound to creep most people out especially when it's the mutated kind.
Thanks for the comment.
