This is a pretty remarkable beautiful way you drew Usagi Yojimbo...HUGE fan of Stan Sakai's comics...The only time I seem to remember Yojimbo the most is from TMNT...The oriental background's so wonderful but not as brillant as the star of this pic, of course, Yojimbo...Like the way you drew his signature sandals, makes me wanna pair...Cool sword and serious expression, EVERYTHING under you fantastic linework and coloring's just beautiful...Can't wait to see what comes next, if they're is a next time...Hopefully there is, you art is marvelous!!!

Now these are the comments I really enjoy reading.
I'm a big fan of Stan's work to. His stories and art are consistently good. I really wish he'd get back to his Usagi comics instead of doing that short series with the human samurai. I'm sure it's good but I'm just more of a fan of his furry stuff.
The background is meant to be simplistic so the character stands out as you picked up. I also like how you pointed out what you liked about the picture. A lot of comments I get are pretty simple and any kind of feedback is good but the ones with more meat to them are the ones I find more fulfilling.
I might do another one. This picture is pretty old so it might be cool to see what I can do with my current skills.
Thanks for the comment.

You're most certainly welcome...and yes, I do TEND to look at every detail of a pic especially if it's as good as your Yojimbo here and most of your artwork...Not fine with just saying "it's cool" or "okay" or "NICE"!!!...I like saying that it's cool and then explaining WHY I like...People LIKE many arts but sometimes the artists wanna know WHY they did a good (or bad, not that you're anywhere near that)job and WHY people love it or hate it...Again thanks for responding back and hope there's more TMNT characters, yet alone more artwork from you.

There will most definitely be more TMNT but I haven't been in the mood lately. I'm not sure if you've checked out the Gronk pages on my front page but that's something I'm focused on continuing among other things. My original work has come front and center.

I actually did check out your gallery and you have some pretty cool work posted on there.

He is often times overlooked but he's a very well written character and in some cases I feel the Usagi books as much better than TMNT over all. However, TMNT could be even better with consistantly good artwork and stories.

I like the smooth 'no-lines' look of Usagi here. Also I like your avatar of Raph (kinda like a good mix of DooM 3 and the Joker). Why this hasn't been faved more is beyond me, it's very good! ^.^

Ninja-Turtles In reply to alaer [2009-08-24 20:59:40 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, I guess Usagi's not popular enough. I don't know why. The stories are written better, the art is consistant and of good quality each and every time so who knows. Maybe it's my rendition that people just don't care for.

The avatar was an image I got from one of the Mirage books. It was a picture of Mikey drawn by Craig Farley. I adore that man's work. Too bad he didn't do much work for Mirage.

I agree, Usagi's a better comic in some ways (cuter too), but I guess anthro furries isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Whoa! That's Mikey? Thought it was Raph at first (though I do know they all wore red masks in the beginning). I should have known with that smile, definitely a Mikey grin. I like Doonley's work (I think I'm spelling his last name wrong, but it's something like that - he did a lot of the comic covers), best painter / airbrushed look really makes him my fave artist for Mirage.

That's funny that Sakai only uses mammals in his books but that's his style and preference I suppose.

yep that was definitely a mikey pic. It was from an anniversary logo and he had his arm extended outward holding his chuck.

Dooney is very talented for sure but his turtles tend to look more human sized and I think they should actually be more shorter with proper turtle proportions. He's still a kick ass painter and artist.

Kobb [2009-05-05 23:35:44 +0000 UTC]

Nice. It's cool how he came out in your style. And while toenails strike me as kinda odd for some reason on animal characters (just a personal opinion that mainly reflects how I choose to draw things), I have to say that for some reason I find this guy's chunky, toenailed feet to be fun to look at.

Ninja-Turtles In reply to Kobb [2009-05-05 23:49:01 +0000 UTC]

People can say what they want about the TMNT 2007 style but those chunky arms and legs have forever changed the way I draw things.

As for the feet, I thought it only fitting that he have them seeing as how real rabbits have toenails (claws). At times I look at it and think it looks a little strange but I guess that comes from never seeing Usagi with them.

Thanks for the comment.

alaer In reply to Ninja-Turtles [2009-08-23 13:27:01 +0000 UTC]

Very true, rabbits do have toenails claws (they look just like human fingernails, but really curved at each side to form a claw- I have four rabbits, I would know). I like how you went for the realistic look, that's what I do when I draw the Turtles from TMNT. ^.^ Feel free to look if you have time

Ninja-Turtles In reply to alaer [2009-08-24 21:02:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I really hate drawing things without fingernails and toenails especially if it's something that should have them.

I did check out your work and you got it goin' on. Very nice.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for looking at my art. I hope to do work for Mirage someday, but they don't need any artists lately (understandable with how the economy is these days).
I want to make my own comic/art company and create new jobs for people, which will benefit others greatly as we need more jobs.

Anyway I agree, fingernails and toenails are a must (I really didn't like how the 2007 TMNT movie didn't put those in for any of the characters).

That's funny you should mention that about Mirage. I asked them if I could do a pin-up for their "tales" book and they turned me down. At least now I don't feel so bad.

alaer In reply to Ninja-Turtles [2009-10-26 08:31:09 +0000 UTC]

Mirage is always saying no to new artists. I talked to Dooney himself and that's what he told me. They won't even take free art (legal reasons I guess, not allowed to accept free work I suppose). I think they have less than 15 employees for the whole studio now, it's really sad it's that bad now.

I hope Kevin Eastman might like my RAVE Girls adult comic idea as I need an adult content publisher and he seems to like such things. But I wonder should I pitch before I have the comic made or after?
