Ooh boy, something tells me I'm gonna get flamed for this.
I don't really like fanfics that involve OCs being the main character because, I usually like reading about the main characters. Now, I know that there are pretty good fanfics with OCs as the main character, but here is one of my biggest pet peeves with OCs in fanfics.
I don't like OC X canon characters. A good example is, I was surfing fanfiction.net for some good LotR fanfics, and I swear, I saw at least a hundred fanfics that share the same summary: a female OC gets sucked into middle earth and falls in love with Legolas. It's a very repetitive idea! Can't the writers imagine a better plotline other than an OC X Canon story?
But I don't really mind if you write these kinds of fanfic, so go right ahead; I'm not gonna stop you.
If tl;dr, OC X Canon fanfics can get repetitive.

I totally agree. There are too many with the same idea, at least if I do that, I don't make an entire story about it, I just have it as like a small part.

I've seen enough. Not that I've started in the first place.
The times I would like it if it goes along with the canons plot, and there are many other things I'm picky about too.

The other way round is even more annoying to me... if the canon character totally falls in love with the beautiful, charming and lovely OC... One reason why I never liked fanfictions. My friends used to drag me to read them when I was a teenager. It was horrible.

I like OC x Canon, but I only like it if the canon character stays in character most of the time.
I also prefer romance subplots to a fic centered around an OCxCanon pairing.

It really depends on the fandom, but in general, I do agree with you. OC x canon stories are far too repetitive. Sometimes, when there's a really intense plot as the driving force, and the romance part takes the back seat, then I will read it. Other than that, they're pretty much all the same and extremely boring to read.
"Oh, have you read that new Doctor Who fic-"
"-with 10 falling in love with a character based on you. Yeah, I read it."
"And?"
"It was boring as fuck."

Generally, I prefer all canon characters or all fan characters in a fanfic, and even then, it depends on the fandom.
Pokemon for example is more suited to fan characters, as the basis of the franchise is the designs of the pokemon which get more focus than the actual characters, thus allowing huge amounts of room for fan characters. You could make pretty much any story you like within the pokemon franchises.
LotR on the other hand is probably more suited to 'what if' scenarios with the canon characters, but care must be taken to apply slight breaks from canon or it'll all fall flat.
Still, never cared for romance anyway, and would much rather see a great adventure, something that both franchises I mentioned are far better suited to than romance.

Ok allow me to add my own argument to it.
I ship ocxcanon and honestly i dont see the big deal with it. There are actually some good ocxcanons. Its not as bad as you think if you give it a chance. Its not actually everywhere like most people say it is. I can easily go onto most search engines and find ACTUAL fanart and fan fictions featuring no ocxcanon. They are out there. And besides if you dont like it you don't have to finish it. Just move on to the next.
Second of all there really is no reason why we should not do ocxcanon. For the shoving it down your throats argument all i'm going to say is we are merely posting art and fan fictions like everyone else. If thats shoving it down your throat get the hell off of the internet because all media is being shoved down your throat. As for the insulting to the creators, I'd say its more insulting that somebody is speaking for the creators.
As for all being bad I see some really creative ones out there. Besides in my opinion it makes the fanfiction more interesting because personally I get tired of all the cannon relationships, because they actually do end up getting repetitive.

I know that there are pretty good OC X Canon fanfics, and I don't mind if ppl write these kinds of fanfics.
But some fanfics can have the same plotline; only with different OCs.

true....to be honest I am picky about fanfics and if i do not like the oc in the first place i stop reading.
With ocxcanon I mostly judge based on how well done it is. Are the characters compatable? that kind of stuff.

I usually judge the oc X canon by "how long" does it take them to get into a relationship.

I can name a few characters who are good with speed love (Sanji XD)Its mostly about how in character the canon is. I dont care if its taken or not if they can keep the canon in character adjust the oc around the canon it'll be a good story.

FCxCanon is the bane of all literature, as it almost always creates the Dreaded Mary Sue.
Fan Characters can be alright, but they just aren't meant to be shipped with canon.
