Description
Oh boy, I think every deviant who puts effort in their works ask themselves this question.A personal pet peeve I have with deviantart is, I see a recolor and edited vector/base that gets a lot of comments and fave. In my opinion, it's really unoriginal and shows signs of little effort and work. It annoys me because, it tells me that people can put little effort in art and get lots attention. It kinda defines logic.
I actually seen a few people here on dA who gets popular by doing recolors or edited vectors. Some people even call their artworks "cool". TBH, I rather see a gallery full of average works with effort shown instead of a gallery filled with recolors.
Feel free to use on your profile!
I used Photoshop
I don't own the Star Trek picture used in this stamp.

seriously. ...any time you see a recolor, all of you anti recolorors go fucking crazy and complain about it like a damn 4 year old. you even have groups here, on facebook, twitter....don't you think at ALL, you're overreacting? you're complaining about something small. ....a photo with different colors. give that a nice thought.

cause they're all open minded....and you antis aren't. plus, you never listen. and you keep thinking that you can remove something from a site, that ignores reports. look around you. recoloring is everywhere. you can't get rid of something that's on the internet. stop complaining about it and just accept it.

Vectors can actually be good if they were rendered skillfully. But recolours are the worst!

To be honest, I sometimes use bases, but I do not post them, and I do not recolor them, but I do have hard time to make a good art

That is why I draw on paper. With lots of practice.

Not to mention the thousands of pointless stamps with a plain background and a slogan full of typos.

I personally don't mind stamps, but if I see a gallery filled with stamps with the same background color, it dives me nuts.

Like what my good friend, says, it's a cheap way to get famous. It happened in the Sonic fandom and you would not believe how many of those fans would almost always use a gender bent Sonic Mary Sue recolors just to get popular. They would even recolor my friend's Sonic fan characters because they can't come up with their own ideas.
Speaking of Sonic fandom, have you noticed that almost all the recolors or mostly hedgehog/genderbent or Tails or Amy? Not only they can't come up anything creative but they also wouldn't even use other different species(i.e. shark, horse, lamb, etc.). It's as if they're forcing themselves to limit just only hedgehogs, foxes, bats, etc.

You know what, history repeats itself. Look at MLP.
Maybe the reason why these recolors and whatnot get so popular is we are giving it negative attention!

Exactly!
Most likely. I do know one Sonic fanartist that got popular because of his Tails recolor. He's also a Brony and keep in mind, his artwork is really good but the problem is that his fan characters(from Sonic and MLP) are recolors. :\ I'm guessing that the fans who saw his page decided to follow what he did and hoping that they'll get the same fame and fortune(okay, maybe not fortune but you get the idea) like their idol did but the thing is, he made that recolor all the way back in 2003, when the Sonic fandom became a poplar fad in Deviantart. That site would be spammed by Sonic fanart/Sonic FC's,/Sonic crossovers, until FIM came along and stole the spotlight. XD

It's just a cheap way to get popular it seems. Lets see them try pick up a pencil and draw without using bases or vectors.Β

Even if it doesn't look right, I think their drawing will be better than their edited bases and vectors. At least they put some effort.

that bothers me too, along with how doing a comic trend that takes a few hours to makeΒ gets way too much attention than an art piece that someone spent hours to days on.
There was a guy I watched who stopped his nuzlocke challenge because everyone kept asking about the next upload and completely ignored his other beautiful artwork.
This is truly an unfair world but that's just the way it is.
