"Three for three," Jaspar said, leaning over the front of the saddle to pillow her face in Spock's mane. "It's so dreary I could die." In truth the weather didn't really bother her through the riding suit, but she wasn't looking forward to a hell-bent sprint through the woods. Spock would probably entertain himself by trying to unseat her at every turn. It was so different than working with a cat like Cap who would die before letting his rider be injured. Jaspar had to actively outwit Spock at every turn, and sometimes that was embarassingly hard to do.

She kicked him into a spring the moment the bell went off, and though his speed was nothing compared to some of the full-bred classic shedus, there was an unsettling moment where she wondered if she left her stomach back at the starting gate. Ahead she could just see the reddish brown tint of a familiar competitor. Spock slid tightly through a narrow gap between pine trees and burst into an open meadow, silently pursuing the other racers with a single-minded goal of surpassing them.

Jaspar, on the other hand, was simply hoping that she'd survive this race and move on to training Spock for tamer endeavors.
