Edit: Tried to add a few more details and fix some value issues. So this was my entry for a challenge in another community that just ended recently.
It's still lacking a bit in the details but I'll consider it finished for now (perhaps I'll come back to it later on).
As always I'm open for constructive criticism and suggestions for improving the image^^

I have to say that i like this scene. I would love the effect it has. I feel like wanting to the know the story that is in the picture. It has so many questions...Β

I very much enjoy scenes that tell a story. And the story you're trying to tell is very clear. I have some suggestions, though. The colors for the piece is slightly muddy, I would raise the brush opacity and choose higher saturated colors. Although your piece is easy on the eyes, there's no wow factor in terms of color. There's also a lot of missed opportunity with the light behind the dragon that would help the dragon stand out more. A strong white light or warm light would bring out the dragon. Consider changing the color of the green shape on the bottom right corner, or detailing it further, or just remove it altogether, as it may cause the viewer to see it as part of the dragon's wing. It took me a while to realize that it was in fact foliage. Other than that, pretty solid piece. Keep it up.Β

Thanks, this is really helpful for me^^
I struggled quite a lot with the colors and values in this image so I stayed a bit too much on the safe side by keeping the whole image a bit more desaturated.
I'll probably need look up some more references for the light setting since I tried to go fore something like you described but I couldn't quite get it right.
I'll also keep your comment about the bottom right in mind for when I go back to fixing it up a bit more.
Btw you have some amazing art :3

This is awesome! I love the atmosphere!
And the way the combination of warm and cold colors bring depth to the picture.
Lovely work and gorgeous dragon!

At first glance, I was like "the dragon's pose looks kind of derpy" but it's playing tic tac toe. Good job, I love the scenery though I feel like it would be better with a bit more sharpness/contrast. It's a problem that I have with my work as well, using a softer color palette but it could be easily fixed with some filters or adjustments. I've been doing it for a little bit though and it's a quick fix, but I feel like it's cheating in way since the art doesn't stay consistent and it's become habitual.Β
Anyways... awesome job on the piece! Look forward to seeing more from you.Β

I wanted to showsome character with the dragons pose (he kind of is a bit derpy since he's quite young and inexperienced)
I struggle a lot with finding the right values and on adding the right amount of contrast. I dont think I could fix that purely with adjustments, I tried, but I would probably need to paint in deeper shadows in cracks and generally add more details in the focal point.
Anyways thanks for the nice comment.
I looked through your gallery and you also have some pretty neat paintings ^^

Hullo^^ I'm from ProjectComment .
I've got to admit, this piece really drew me in. I love it for not only its funny title, but also for the story it tells. But first things first. The background, while it is very sketchy, fits the picture well. I like the jagged stones overgrown with greenery as well as the high, stone spikes further away. The landscape suggests a mountain-y terrain, and that fits the anatomy of the dragon very well. It accentuates the natural, long-distance-away kind of feeling this piece has to me. I also have to commend your little stream - drawing water is difficult to me, so I always appreciate a well-drawn river. The gradual darkening of it works wonderfully with the imposing dragon.
Next on, the characters. The size of that dragon is enormous, which fits the background and the whole image. I like that it isn't a fat wyrm-like creature, but agile and nimble, as it seems to be climbing around on the mountains rather than flying and/or just using its wings for balance. the way its tail fades into the back seems a bit off to me, though I'm not too suure why - maybe you should've started the colour fading a bit further back still to make it look more natural. I like how the whole dragon is built, but found the gloves (?) it's wearing to be a bit odd. It looks like they should just fall off, all things considered. Maybe the bit of arm where the glove starts could be a mite thicker. The way the dragon is pitched forward makes it look gentle despite clearly still being a wild creature. i love how focused it looks - it reminded me of my dog when he tries to puzzle something out.
The human looks incredibly small in comparison, but I love the shock of ginger hair and the giant stock she carries. There is clearly no fear in this one, and I love how relaxed she seems.
Last but not least, I absolutely, utterly love the idea of the two of them playing tic-tac-toe. It seems like such a random thing to do, yet I can see how playing together would form a bond and strengthen it. I would so love to read a story that goes with this - I'd love to know whether the dragon can speak, how intelligent it is, and if it let the female walk away or tried to eat her later anyway.

Thanks for this really extensive comment :3
I'm glad to hear that I managed to give him the type of character that I intended.
Those actually aren't gloves on his underarms I just did a really bad job at rendering the underarms xD
I tried to fix some of the errors and added a few more details so I hope it looks better now^^
Tic-tac-toe seemed just so unfitting but at the same time fit so well that I just had to add it to the image.
I would say that the dragon understands human language quite well but probably is not that good in actually speaking it (simply for a lack of experience since he's still quite young).
I'll let the last thing up to your own interpretation.

You're welcome! I have to agree - the tic-tac-toe seems
so random it just fits your piece perfectly and makes it
look very friendly.

It's surprisingly hard to paint a dark, young and curious dragon without reminding people of Toothless xD

Heh, you could have drawn an Asian-styled kind of dragon? That wouldn't have reminded anyone of Toothless.

I actually went with asian styled dragons for most of my other thumbnails for this challenge xD
However I don't think that would have worked for this specific scene and characters.

Freaky cool! You can tell an artists style by the way they start and finish their work, and I gotta say, you have style! From the smooth painterly strokes to the color pallet this piece is eye candy. Β
I appreciate the simplicity of the shot, and I understand you were pressed for time due to the contest you were apart of, but perhaps if you went back to work on this some time you could focus on one spot for detail, and let the detail grow less and less from that spot on the canvas. Most likely the creature's face would be the focus of detail and it would fade out from there, leaving the beautifully simple land/rocks the way they are. That would really put this over the top!Β
Also, the contrast you accomplished is already amazing, but if you were to had some heavy backs and bright whites here and there, it would become lifelike. Β Β
I absolutely love the tic tac toe aspect by the way. Nice a cheery . I don't know if this was based on anything but it adds a great story element to the piece and makes it memorable.
Fantastic work and I wish you the best of luck!

I still feel pretty lost while painting so it's quite interesting to hear that I have a distinct style. I'm currently in a phase where my errors are very
apparent to me but I don't have the skills to fix all of them yet.
Thanks for the suggestion on how I could start with the detailing. Adding details is something I'm struggling with a bit (partially because of impatience but also because of inability sometimes).
It wasn't really based on something, I mainly thought it would add a bit more story to the image (I kind of wanted to let those two play a game since there was another submission that had them playing chess with enormous figures, and tic tac toe kind of fit pretty well into this image xD).
