A long overdue gift for .
First it was a Christmas gift (I think) then it turned into a birthday gift... or the other way around...Man.. if anyone can figure out how to make trees look real w/o resorting to custom brushes, please tell me.
Honestly, I'm not really a fan of the Sonic characters outside of Sonic III, probably because I stopped playing at III XD. I did, however, love the SatAM Sonic.

knuckles doesn't get as much time in the spotlight as he used to. it's refreshing to see knuckles pics depicting him in his original role as a mysterious rival. well done!

Dude, my thoughts exactly! The true rivalry will always be Sonic and Knuckles to me! He was supposed to stop Sonic at every turn.. be the ultimate antithesis. Thanks for the comment and visit ^^

I think it's half-assed. A darker form of an original character doesn't make him any cooler >_>. I mean, they might be pandering to all those die-hard hedgehog fans, but seriously, the designers could've done better. I suppose they figured nothing would be more amazing than Sonic Himself, but they tried anyway. Silver just fails.

I wasn't able to get into that new game where Silver makes his debut, frankly because I don't feel like spending that much money for a game console. Shadow was an interesting take on things, and I think they fleshed out his character fairly well, but I agree with what his role is.

XD Thanks! I tried to mix a few of the Sonic styles, although I think I'm more influenced by the SatAM Sonic more than anything. I'm not much of a fan of the new Sonic styles.

Ah, it's nice to see some different Sonic art (i.e. not just recolors 
As for the trees, I don't use custom brushes to start with. I block in the main darkers color, and then add lighter parts and branches/leaves with a smudge brush (on the GIMP it's called "Galaxy brush"). Then I smudge/convolve as necessary to get a sort of real effect. See what I mean in this deviation I did: [link] Hopefully that helps.
So anyway, I really love this piece. It's definitely getting a

I don't have gimp, but I think I have an idea of what brush you're using. I try not to smudge so much with trees because smudging lends something that's too soft for what a tree is. The trees you did in your deviation look very good, but it looks a little too soft for what I was going for in this picture. As much as possible, I wanted to show individual and defined leaves (or at least give the impression of intense detail). Thank you for the tip though! It looks like it'll come in handy for softer backgrounds!

The pose Knuckles has here took me a long time to get right XD. I was considering just making a picture of him alone like that before deciding to add in Sonic.
