Description
An older Mina with the Count coloured in the style of Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.Take from it/interpret it however you want, I don't really care.
So, onto the origins... I've been watching Gankutsuou, this adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo, in which the Count is a blue, European Nobleman who drinks blood. Sound familiar? ...So yeah, weird connection to make, but Mina and the Count... I mean, blue, animated, vampire, European noblemen... How many of those do you see wandering around?
It was awful for an indecisive person like me, trying to choose a texture for everything, but after lots and lots of time and editing, I've come up with an overall look I'm happy with. Some highlight's include the Count's jacket, which was made from a tiny marble pattern that I cloned and blurred to make larger, Mina's dress which is basically highly edited stationary, and the background which is a composite of several outer space photos and filters, along with a lot of color tweaking.
Mina and the Count belong to Rob Renzetti. Who's a baller.

I'd be delighted! I drew it with micron pens, then scanned it in photoshop. I changed the color of the lines using variations. Then I collected various texture images online, and then I pasted them over my linework in photoshop. Seperate layers, set to multiply... Do I need to elaborate further, or?

Oh, Photoshop. So you attained this finish in that program...curious, a friend of mine told me that it was in Illustrator where one could use textures and patterns like this; I guess both programs can be used for the same purpose.
Anyways, your picture is pretty well done, the concept is original without dipping into unnecessary details, the line art is somewhat softer than the original cartoons but it's alright as it gives the image a more mature and romantic feeling, and of course, the textures' use was quite clever of yours to give life to a drawing that could less spectacular.

Yes, I believe photoshop is more suited for coloring in general, I would consider illustrator more of a graphic design program.

I couldn't tell you if I tried how awesome this is. Seriously... you make me VERY VERY jealous when I see stuff like this. The linework is unbelievable, and the perfect amount of simplicity in their features is almost as magical as the use of textured resources for their clothes. This is phenomenal work.
Have you finished Dracula yet? And, out of curiosity, why did you make Mina older? And, however your intentions may say otherwise, it does look romantic... which isn't a problem in this case. The biggest problem with romantic relationships between Dracula and Mina is in the fact that it doesn't stand as an accurate interpretation of the novel. You made no attempt to interpret the novel, this is a standalone piece, and it is FINE to do that. Don't get all worried over it.
I would like to think it is romantic... but that's just me.
Again, VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY well done, you get better with each passing day.

Thank god, I was a bit scared of how you'd respond, I mean, what with the show being based on Dracula and the picture being based on the show... Also Mina is a kid in the cartoon, but you know, she will grow up eventually, but I can totally see how the idea of them developing a romantic relationship is creepy. So yeah. >>
But I mean, I left it open ended because you could look at it from the standpoint that the Count's feeling wistful that Mina's all grown up, or from a romantic point of view, either way.
Anyway, I wanted to create a more dramatic, mature feeling piece and specifically I wanted to take the simple colour schemes and concepts from the original cartoon and spin them in a different way. I mean, I like the idea of a character who's all red and a character who's all black and blue, it's fun to flesh out simple concepts...
Okay, so maybe I did intend it to be romantic. I admit it. But in a totally innocent and not at all weird or creepy way... Do you get what I mean? >>
Also, did you know the Count was originally voiced by Mark Hamill? Holy shit!
