So... Um...Well, first off, there's this film. And uh... Shit, I can't seem to find a clip. Guess it was too obscene for youtube. Um, anyway, Julian Sands plays the Phantom, who isn't deformed, doesn't where a mask, lives under an opera house and has a very... "Special" relationship with rats.
And... Yeah. It's the worst thing ever. So here we have Gaston Leroux's Phantom and Webber's Phantom having a tasteful discussion of cinema.
This dialogue is taken directly from a conversation between a friend and I after viewing the film. If you can even call it a film.
But I'll say this, even if it was physically painful to watch, I did have a good laugh at a few parts. The Phantom Reviewer did a highly amusing review of it, if you're curious. It's a lot easier to watch than the actual movie. [link]

Dario's film is a disgrace to Poto. I watched the first 15 minutes of the movie (Not realizing how messed up it was gonna be) and had to stop because it was soooo freaking weird! But, I watched a lot of the Phantom Reviews, and was laughing the entire time.

But my goodness! Attracted to rats?! I thought it was awful enough to hear a ridiculous story about Erik being raised by rats, but to also be attracted to them that way?! Ugh, grooooooossssss!
I swear, it's not even Poto at ALL! They took the names, but created completely different characters and everything! Gosh, I hope that most people aren't introduced to Phantom through that film, because if they are, they're gonna have a completely different prospective of the story. . .Well, I think that's enough of my rant.
Aside from that, I love this picture. It's hilarious, and it had my best friend and I laughing.

Yeah? I myself much prefer the stage musical to the movie, and it's also nice to read the book before seeing it, since there are a LOT of differences. The original silent film is better for plot accuracy. The costumes and sets for the 2004 version are pretty cool, though.

OMG, if you want to scar yourself for life, go around trying to own a copy of every Phantom movie ever made, find this on ebay, find NOTHING scarring about it online (other than it's directed by acclaimed Italian horror director Dario Argento, whom you know nothing of, and that it was filmed on location in an opera house in Hungary that was also designed by Garnier), order it, and then watch it.

Why Dario didn't just fire Sands and get another actor when Sands refused to wear makeup (dude, it's a PHANTOM movie. Effects makeup WILL be involved!! SHOULD be involved. Sheesh) I'll never know. I suspect it's cuz he's bat-shit insane. XD

I've watched a good number of Phantom movies, but mostly online. And yeah, I completely agree about Julian Sands, or really, pretty much anyone involved in this movie. I mean, not only is it bad, it's just... Bizarre. Like, insanely fucking bizarre. I do not understand how... I mean.... What the hell?
And yeah. I guess in a way it's nice that he looks nothing like the Phantom because I really don't want to associate Erik with... THAT. >>
