Description Another piece for the Phantom Reviewer's upcoming book review. Other can be found here: [link]

The review is up! This picture at 2:10 and my Christine at 5:10. [link]

The only Phantom book I've read is the original, but it's not the only one out there. Because I've never read Susan Kay's Phantom, I drew from the Reviewer's description of the scene. I don't know if Kay's Phantom looks any different from Leroux's, but from what I've gleaned from Wikipedia it appears they're very similar.

Anyway, so in Kay's book they're this whole bit about Erik being in a freakshow of sorts, so here's young Erik, looking incredibly pissed off. And no, this image is not at all meant to be taken seriously, if it were, it would hopefully be less retarded.

D'aww, he's so grumpy.

I suspect that those who in the past have had the audacity to stick their fingers through the bars have lost them.

The Phantom of the Opera is Leroux's, "Phantom" is Susan Kay's. Art is mine.

Hopefully when the PR posts his new video I'll put up a nice little link.

Also, if anyone recognizes the colour scheme/general layout of this picture, congratulations, you've been watching me for far too long.

Still, whenever I hear that name, all I can think of is Les Miserables. xD

Actually, I didn't know about Javert from Les Miserables until after reading Phantom. But yeah, Javert from Les Miserables comes first to mind too.

Oh really? I had no idea! Yeah, Leroux's Phantom is probably my favourite character of all time. Huh, who knew?

<3 Yeah, it's hard not to love the Phantom.
It disappoints me that in both the (crappy) 2004 movie version and even the play, Erik is never depicted quite right. The way he's described in Gaston's book he kind of looks a bit like a living mummy.

NitrusOxide In reply to PsychotropicFox [2009-11-22 19:31:03 +0000 UTC]

I always thought of him more zombie-like than mummy like, but yeah. It's weird. I mean, if they're going to do the whole 'half face deformity' they could at least make it accurately skull like... Then again, would that leave him with only half a nose? xD

Yeah, 2004 version... xD

Well, at least it's good for a laugh. I have to say, I was just peeing during some of that stuff.

PsychotropicFox In reply to NitrusOxide [2009-11-22 19:51:48 +0000 UTC]

Well zombies are all "Braains" and rotting and stuff, but mummies are preserved and such. So I just thought D:

Bahaha, Gerard Butler cannot sing.

NitrusOxide In reply to PsychotropicFox [2009-11-22 23:15:34 +0000 UTC]

He's great at screaming, though. xD

Point. But mummies are also usually really dry and brown. Like beef jerky. Not that it matters in the long run. Whatever corps-ie thing you wish to relate him too makes no difference.

SPARTAAAAAAA
Yeah, he's kinda in his own classification.
Say, did you ever see the butchered version with Robert Englund? I mean it has that one gorgeous song, but that's it. And lots of murder. Plus corn.

YES I HAVE WHAT THE FUCK. It's so... Well, basically it's just Friday the 13th but with time travel and opera. Good lord... Pretty funny at bits, though. I've seen way too many versions, and only a handful have been worthwhile...

PsychotropicFox In reply to NitrusOxide [2009-11-25 00:46:39 +0000 UTC]

Not Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street. He looks just like Freddy Kruger because IT'S THE SAME GUY hahaha
I bought it at Barnes and noble for 9 dollars, bahaha. So i can watch the hilarity whenever I want.
Shorty and I initially rented it like three years ago and got a kick out of how corny it was.

NitrusOxide In reply to PsychotropicFox [2009-11-25 00:56:50 +0000 UTC]

I know, I meant to say Nightmare on Elm Street, sorry. I never get Freddy and Jason confused, but I can't keep their movie titles straight. Dx

And yeah, I know it's Robert Englund. But seriously, basically Freddy Phantom. The effects when he takes off his face are pretty cool, though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PsychotropicFox In reply to NitrusOxide [2009-11-25 03:55:06 +0000 UTC]

I KNOW I've said Friday the 13th like 20 times when I mean to say the other one. I lol that Nightmare on Elm Street as an acronym is NOES. "OH NOES FREDDY KRUGER".

Yeah, for an older movie, it's pretty good. It's more accurate than other depictions of the Phantom. That and it's one of the few where they use his actual name.
But I was pretty lolsome when the satanic dwarf guy came into the picture, hahaha.
BZZZT, CURSE OF THE KEEBLER

NitrusOxide In reply to PsychotropicFox [2009-11-25 04:01:01 +0000 UTC]

Really? You know actually, even though the stage musical tones down the deformity and makes Erik a bit less deadly, I'd still say it's more accurate. I mean, the whole deal with the devil thing kind of came out of nowhere.

Also that 'NOES' thing is amazing. >>

PsychotropicFox In reply to NitrusOxide [2009-11-25 21:25:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, yeah. In my opinion, book-wise, Erik is a very pitiable character, while in the Englund version he is juts like.... a satanic sex fiend lolol
In the book, he was sweet as could be, really, having grown up with no social guidance. <3 he is quite charming in the musical, because I love any man that will sing to me.

NitrusOxide In reply to PsychotropicFox [2009-11-26 00:38:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was pretty pissed when Freddy Phantom got all rapey with Christine. And the whole prostitute thing was totally out of character as well...

I mean, he may have some homicidal tendencies, but really, I mean, he loathes himself and views Christine as pretty much immaculate, so the idea of him doing that... Ridiculous, really.

PsychotropicFox In reply to NitrusOxide [2009-11-26 01:12:00 +0000 UTC]

Bahaha, Freddy Phantom. (Danny Phantom parody, ftw?)

As soon as there is an accurate portrayal of the book, either by film or by theatre, I will be satisfied.
Oh, did you hear that Andrew Lloyd Webber has been writing a sequel for Phantom of The Opera? Hmm, I am cautious, but I look forward to it nonetheless.

NitrusOxide In reply to PsychotropicFox [2009-11-26 02:53:22 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's exactly how I feel! I've been waiting and waiting, but to no avail. I've got this cobbled together version in my head of Phantom with bits stolen from a bunch the films. But the way I see it, there probably never will be a 'Definitive' version because everyone's got different tastes. It would be wonderful to find a perfect one, though...

The sequel? Oh lordy... Yeah, I've heard. The book it's based on looks rank, but apparently a lot changes. I mean, I don't see any reason to make a sequel, but I'm definitely curious to see the sequel and even anticipating it, but I've got sort of a bad feeling...
