Description Part of a set of two screenprints. Four layers, size is about 11" by 15"

This might require some explanation. I conceptualized this during that terrible week-long heatwave that hit Minnesota/most of America awhile back. At the time I was feeling really exhausted, I wanted to just lie down and not exist for awhile. The way the idea developed was kind of strange and gradual, I went in with a feeling I wanted to convey and a little bit of imagery I wanted to use and just sort of pieced stuff together. I knew I wanted a lotus, a lamprey and bubbles and then things sort of gelled from there. The plants on the left one are poppies, my mom grows them in her garden and I loved the shape of them so much I wanted to work with them. I thought the opium reference was fitting.

Even though I’m not a religious or spiritual person, I find mythology really fascinating, and I wanted to create something that had that look about it. The images are not meant to be literal, more of a metaphor for surrender.
