An extremely thought provoking and moving piece. Captured so wonderfully through documentary pictures and narrative

What an awesome presentation. As often as I use flash, I've never thought of just letting images and words speak for themselves. Overall, you have a great future in journalism if you desire, this was well written and very compelling. I thought the images told the story very well. There are a few slides which do not have any words or very few and made me feel a little cheated: I wanted to read more about this man! Maybe spread some of the text out or adding more in those shallow places might make the presentation feel more completed/finished. But that's my only concern. Excellent work, I hope to see more like this! ^^

i'm glad i was patient enough to let this story full load on dA...the story is simply put as unemotionally as possible, yet it tugs at my heart...the accompanying photographs frame your words perfectly...i really take my hat off to you for this excellent piece~

A very endearing piece and the presentation equals the story in depth and sincerity. Cleanly put together and the method of manually changing screens gives the viewer/reader ample time to reflect on each emotion driven page of text and imagery. The photos themselves offer up a stark emotional feeling that they could stand alone and still be effective, but not as effective as it is with the included story. Well done. I've recognized this piece on Deviously Artistic (here ).
PS: After watching this, I feel like I know the people involved. That's the mark of a succesful photojournalistic piece, to me.

the amount of emotion contained in this is uncanny, much respect for taking the time to put something like this together.

Man..... very deep.
I actually remember Aaron back in highschool! (Yes I went to Northwest) He was one of the only people who ever talked to me in those halls. Being a goth and an athiest, I had little in connection with that over-enthusiastic country lad, yet I always appreciated all the kind words he said to me and the fact that he always remembered my name. I always remembered his complete lack of disdain for anyone. In a more perfect world, I wish I could have emulated that. I do to the best of my abilitiy today and still I cant be as positive as he was. As least I can try to be as kind.
Anyways, I'm off track. The slideshow was very interesting. Also the pictures of the dead chickens were very moving. I don't understand why killing an innocent animal can bring closure to anyone. Oh well, at least his father could turn his life around. Good work.

Very nice...almost speechless after watching this. You always think you have it bad, but theres usually a good aftershock to terrible things like this, as you illustrated so well.

The story is great; the idea behind it all is fantastic.... the only thing I'd say was that is it's a little reptitive in style, what with the fuzzy object in the background and the sharp, focused object in the forground... I mean, that might be a stylistic thing and it unifies the whole project.... but congrats anyway!! Good job!

DANG!!
That is one of the most beautiful and touching pieces of art I have ever seen. It captures such reality. You are an awesome photographer...as is the reason I only have you as my lone photographer in my watch list. As a father you made me relate to this man. I seriously had to fight back tears while I am looking at this at work. This is reality. This is love. And this is life. You captured all three beautifully.
Great job.

Wonderful, makes my photo essay look like crap. Especially with the flash; mine was done just through dreamweaver in about twenty minutes. Journalistically it's beatiful. A real human interest piece with excellent research and interview skills. The photos really show that. I always have trouble trying to get people's picture for a story that's why I never bother unless it's a 300+ word story. Something about a huge bulky SLR with a large lense that scares them. The aesthetics in the pictures is wonderful too, although there was a slight repitition with the killing of the chikens, you could have just made an inset if you really wanted two/three different angles. Other than that it was a great story, definite fav.
