You could always introduce her as a kit, too.
Actually there is! At the bottom of your Clan's name in this list it explains what is open and what is not.
For SnowClan, currently it says:
-CLOSED to new members
-OPEN to new kit characters
-OPEN to apprentice characters
-OPEN to warrior characters
So looks like youre good no matter what status you want to bring her in as (kit/'pprentice/warrior)

Hmm. I would like to start her out as a kit, but I haven't got parents for her and I really don't want to have a sad backstory for her, I'd rather have her be just a normal Clanborn kitty. If I do, do I need to mention her parents at all? I could probably find someone having kits, but I wouldn't even know how to ask if she could be one of them.

You can do that without the mention of parents, or if you notice someone on the Relationships Journal under your Clan is having kits, I'd approach them and say "hey i wanted to bring in a new character and I was wondering if she could be included in your litter?"
Currently it looks like Stonetail and Stonespot are expecting kits between May 11th and May 18th.
