it was the result of mismanagement and empire building at the South African Nationanal Rail and Steam Museum in Randfontein in South Africa. 2 complete collections of vintage steam engines destroyed through one persons pig headedness

I call them Empire Builders and they thrive in clubs and societies, but it is also a product of the reticence people show when it comes to standing for committees or getting involved. Β And once and empire builder is in place the odds of attracting new members is small. They will end up leaving because the club or society is a personal fiefdom.Β

They seem to be everywhere. Because they were there first they think it is their right to belittle and bully those coming along later. I left my last heritage railway because of such people and I decided never to go back.

I have to admit I had a unique glimpse into the construction of these machines, but hated that they had met their fate through official neglect and indifference.Β
