Despite not wanting to admit it, Splinter's death affected Raphael the most out of the four brothers. Being the oldest sibling, Raphael believed he had a duty to protect his family, and he had failed to protect his father from dying. He blamed himself for Splinter's death and Donnie's disfigurement, even though his brothers assured him it was not his fault.

Raph hated himself for his failure, for not being the one to kill Shredder. He used this hatred to push himself further, so nobody would endanger him or his family again. So he trained more than ever, fueled by his rage and self-loathing. He would spend sleepless nights training at the local gyms, oftentimes refusing to leave when staff attempted to close the building.

Raphael became notorious for his ferocious strength and unstoppable drive, and he demonstrated those traits by engaging in street fights for money. No one was able to best him.

Wanting to fight the best-of-the-best, Raph applied for the UFC, landing a spot in the light-heavyweight division. He fought his way up the ladder and eventually earned the opportunity to fight Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell. The fight went the distance, with Raphael being awarded the belt by split-decision.

Raph eventually realized that he was not to blame for the outcome of the battle with Shredder, and he now lives a content life training aspiring UFC fighters.
