Day 1 of specposuim’s spectember: adaptive radiation
The same world that the king whale inhabits is also home to impressive island chains, some with very unique fauna trapped for millions of years. One of these islands is home to a clade of flightless bats which fill a variety of niches ranging from fish eater, to nectarivore to common herbivore. Most are still omnivorous to some degree, subsisting on whatever food they can find.
A convergent species of flightless bat, this one descended from vampire bats, is the apex predator of the bat island.
