My scanner has butchered this. It has completely ruined all the tones. It's a lot smoother in real life, trust me! The hair has more detail in reality, and the shading on the face isn't so blotchy and I spent a lot of time making the skin textured (although the scanner doesn't show that).
It's from a beautiful photo by Michael Tarasov that I found at www.portrait-photos.org. The original had strands of hair across the cheek and nose but I decided not to include them.

I can only imagine how fantastic it must be IRL, since when I first saw it while browsing deviantART, I thought it was a photo! Your scanner may have screwed it up a bit, it still looks amazing. Really and truly.

wowow her hair looks very effective and real. Beautifully done, it's funny to compare, I drew the same picture, interesting how differently people sense same things. Mine is so much lighter and I guess I worked more on other details. if you're interested [link] , I love your version! ^^

This to me is your most realistic protrait. The highlights in the hair and eye capture the life in her.

Something scared me for a second. I was browsing other deviants' pages and I saw THIS [link] (it's the same picture as the one you did) and I thought "art theft" immediately. But when you compare them, yours is clearly better
