Hum.. I donΒ΄t really use photoshop, just for minor edits in the end.

I do everything "manually"... it goes something like this: Brush, brush, erase, brush, erase, brush, erase, brush, rage, erase, brush, shade, shade, shade, delete entire layer, shade again, rage more, cry, shade more, kick something, go to bed.

Hahah xD I tend to get really frustrated with lineart. There's always one part that doesn't cooperate. ;_;

GrimMelvin In reply to nocks [2012-02-05 21:00:01 +0000 UTC]

I started using vectors for it after one time when I got very pissed. I just modiny it later, once the coloring is done. Like.. around the eyes and such..

Awesome tutorial nocks! What does the 'contract' step actually do though? Because I recently started colouring and shading by the magic tool/inverse, and it works fine without the 'contract' step. Have you tried that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nocks In reply to Juffs [2012-02-05 00:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Mhmm! I used to not use it but if you zoom in the outside of the line would have color from your base which drove me crazy but by using it my line is clean and the color I want to be instead of the base color in a sense 'leaking' out of the lineart.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

icygumball3000 [2012-02-04 23:08:22 +0000 UTC]

Nocks, YOU ARE GOD!!!!
That "contract" function is just the thing I've been looking for to drastically cut down on the amount of time spent coloring. My old method was... manually filling the color in with the brush tool. I would have used magic wand if it didn't leave uncolored bits around the lineart. X( But thanks to you, now I know how to use the magic wand the right way. So THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!!!
Also, just out of curiosity, what do you usually set your DPI to?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nocks In reply to icygumball3000 [2012-02-05 00:41:54 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha I'm so glad I could help! And I'm sure I know what DPI is but I don't know what it means hah. If that makes any sense. What is it exactly?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

icygumball3000 In reply to nocks [2012-02-05 03:40:40 +0000 UTC]

When you create a new photoshop document, in the box that comes up it'll say "Resolution: X pixels/inch (or pixels/cm)"
DPI stands for "dots per inch", and is synonymous with PPI which means "points/pixels per inch".
I usually set mine at 300 PPI, which creates a large file size, but I like the added quality.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nocks In reply to icygumball3000 [2012-02-05 05:07:27 +0000 UTC]

OH Hah. Yeah I usually do at least 3000x3000 with a DPI of 300 I believe.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

icygumball3000 In reply to nocks [2012-02-07 01:47:15 +0000 UTC]

Higher dpi means higher quality, and who doesn't like that? (rhetorical question )
