Description
this is my second attempt at using 3d printing. i'm trying to figure out how fine the detail can be having it printed in stainless steel as opposed to a resin.this is not a part of the ring a day project.

i could always just silver plate it...that would keep the price down. silver prices are sooo crazy now. all the silver i bought for $5/oz years ago was cashed in when it hit $30/oz.

I have heard that investing in silver can be better than gold because it tends to fluctuate more.
It looks very interesting and strong because of its structure. Architechtural almost.

well, if you bought $500 worth of silver in about 2000, it would be worth almost $4000 today. not a bad return.

Very interesting design. I love the texturing as well. It really lends to the over all feel of the ring. One of the things I enjoy about making jewelry is the suprises you get from process.

thanks! the whole 3d printing thing is so incredible to me. i've really enjoyed watching the technology evolve from manufacturing prototyping to jewelry to who knows whats next.

i wish i could take credit for the texture, but it's a result of the 3d printing process.

practice, practice, practice! i taught myself how to use cad software, and it's opened up new ideas to explore.

We have like one basic course in our school about cad and rhino, but there's so little time to learn to everything.

that's what i use...rhino. between figuring out stuff for myself, the tutorials and help that comes with it, and youtube, i've been able to learn it fairly well (at least for what i want to use it for). next i have to figure out how to use the renderer i've got for it.

I really like the texture on it, it looks like some ancient jewelry. Very cool.

yeah, the texture is something i'm going to have to design to. now that i have a pretty good idea of what to expect, i'll play with it more.

That ring looks like it would be really nice to wear. The texture looks cool as well as the design. I probably couldn't stop messing with it if I was wearing it.

yes, it is. if i had made it to fit my right hand instead of my left, i would wear it. i'll have to make one to fit me. this one will probably go up for sale in my etsy shop.

Interesting. The texture created by the printing process seems to work really well here, but there are definitely some limitations. Can you carve fine details in resin and then have the resin cast?

it can be printed in a resin that has much higher resolution, which can then be cast.
