I guess this is a sort of homage to the fireflies series I did years ago - except that now I'm much better at drawing!! I'm actually really pleased with this, as it's almost 100% unreferenced, and I just looked at clipart of their faces to get a feel for what I was doing, I didn't use any direct references.Pleased as I am, I'm sure I'll find something I want to change by tomorrow! XD
Edit: Immediately found somethingΒ - unfortunately the png colours are showing up insanely saturated, so I'm having to use the lower quality jpeg.
First time in a long long time I've done a proper, original, full colour scene with canon characters, so I hope you guys like it!

What I especially like about this one is that the fireflies now illuminate their surroundings. The background, the shading, the cubs, perfectly meld together. Wow. Just wow.

Yeah it was by chance I discovered that using the dodge tool gave a sort of illumination quality, so I went with it! And thank you :3

This picture was a bit of a fluke, two of my artisty friends (one a painter, one a musician) were being all productive and creative and encouraged me to give something challenging a go. So I did, and it went amazingly well. The background came so naturally that I actually really want to try and do a whole variety of them - each just a very small snippet of a path like this is - high banks, dirt paths and trees in the distance, but in different colour schemes, times of day etc. I might go in reverse - create some backgrounds and then some lions to fit in! In my mind, this is behind Pride Rock - the way the path slopes up on the left is kinda down the bottom behind where the lionesses hang out in the film.
