Description EDIT #2: Holy crap!!! A DD!! Thank you so much! This totally just made my day. I am very highly honoured

EDIT: just resubmiting this because I wanted to show off the front as well.

I finally got some real photos taken of these!!! I'm sorry, they are just boring ones without models on a white background, but they show off the costume well.

This is the back of my Forest Guardian costume.

Hand felted/dyed wool over cheesecloth with moss and leaves.
It took over 20 hours of very hard and wet work.

And no, its not a dress, its a vest/robe for a man.

Lovely work, the effort really shows. It's nice to see a forest theme using more than just forest colours. The textures here are what really make it for me!

May I ask how you preserved this ?

I have tried using moss and leaves in my sculpture and have tried various preservatives, only to have the leaves and moss become brittle and fall away over time.

This is one of the best articles of clothing I have ever seen. I wish they sold clothes like this in stores instead of the poly cotton crap.

If I had the money, I would buy this and commission you to make all my clothes.

peace

I'm not sure how it's doene here...but I've discovered that PVA glue is quite good for preserving leaves
if you dry them while pressing them you can then "mould" them to some extent when you cover them in glue...
quite a messy way though...

you know, after 2 days of cleaning out my mom's man made pond and stream.....

it actually reminds me more of the algae in the stream, with the leaves in it, than moss. the algae is actually kinda pretty, till you touch it. but I am sure this feels A LOT nicer than algae....

how long will the moss last?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nolwen In reply to angstmonkey [2008-03-12 15:51:51 +0000 UTC]

pretty long actually. I just wore this thing the other day (about a year after it was made) and moss is still doing fine. It's all dried out, but the felt helps keep it together. though it does tend to shed a bit sometimes.
