Gulpers were originally discovered when three humans game across a four-eyed dragon that was sitting silently in the bushes, waiting for prey. Unbeknowest to them, the beast's gaze had fallen upon them. It took mere seconds for the beast to devour two of them whole in two gulps, leaving the third to flee the ravenous creature and speak of it to his hometown.

Word spread of the beast, and paranoia set in. Children were not allowed to leave their homes. Work was stopped for fear of men and women being eaten. Education was stopped. Lives were made miserable, and the homeless were taken in by friendly neighbors. But, when they never saw the beast after 2 years, they began to wonder: did the beast truely exist? Or was it a hoax set by the man to cover murder?

After much investigation, they came to the conclusion that the man had lied, and had him executed for causing so much trouble.

Another year passed, and all was calm. People enjoyed their lives to the fullest. Children could play again, and the homeless had gathered enough money to go out on their own. One night, several of them heard a low, rumbling growl near the town's entrance. Curiously, they gathered weapons and lanterns, and went to investigate the sound. When they found the source, they were shocked to see the Gulper, sleeping at the entrance...

Habits: Gulpers are commonly known for their unsatiable appetites. To keep themselves content, they eat more than their body weight of food per day, but cannot gain weight.

They tend to eat anything that moves and that they can fit in their large, expandable gullets. People, livestock, other dragons, gryphons, and creatures that most humans would deem inedible. If it tastes good, it goes down and stays down. If not, it is regurgitated and abandoned, sometimes still alive. They swallow their food whole, for they cannot chew. The jaw structure of the Gulper is not build for rotating motions like most mammals.

The skin of their bellies is highly extendable; it can fit an entire cow without ripping. They take full advantage of this.

--

Locomotion:

Gulpers are very mammalian in build, and look much like lions when walking or running. They don't swim often, though, because they are not build for even semiaquatic life.

Gulpers can jump far distances (at least 20ft per leap). They are commonly seen leaping onto prey to pin them before they devour them alive.

--

Habitat:

Gulpers are commonly found in forests or woodsy areas, where there is plenty of underbrush to hide in to wait for prey. It's not rare to find them in tropical areas, though... It's just uncommon.

--

Vocalization:

Gulpers make a low, growling or gurgling sound when content. They cannot roar, for they do not have vocal cords. When angered, their growls turn into furious, gurgling hisses. If threatened, they snarl and growl to ward off attackers. They commonly pull their lips back to show their teeth and gums as well.

When scared or nervous, they make quiet clicking sounds with their tongues by quickly closing and reopening throats. The sound is deep and throaty, and sometimes sounds like rocks being smashed together. Their jaws quickly open and close with the movements of their tongues.

When happy, they make a loud, throaty whistle by manipulating their throat flaps, allowing only a thin stream of air to pass. When doing this, their mouths open wide, and they seem to smile.

When saddened, they are silent.

--

Coloration:

Soon to be shown (Possibly).

--

Weapons:

Gulpers have massive stomachs and extremely corrosive stomach acids. When fighting, they spit torrents of stomach acids at each other or at enemies, ensuring their ends if not dodged. They also have about 70-90 teeth in their mouths, making escape almost impossible if bitten and not released.

They also use their claws, horns, and tails to attack, but not as commonly as their stomach acids.

Here you go: Two variations of my species the Gulper Dragon. I've yet to know which variations they are, but for now, enjoy. These are obviously male. ._.

Anyway, I really enjoyed drawin these. They were a great way to practice quad anatomy; I needed it immensely.

Sketched in No.2 pencil, outlined in black ball-point pen.

Drawings are (c) to me. Do not use without my permission.

These are NOT free linearts.

this creature reminds me a LOT of a creature I once made, the Cobraling. Eh, I'm not saying you stole the idea, I'm just saying that it reminds me eerily....

I've gotten that so many times. xD It really surprises me, how my idea reminds people of other things (their own ideas, other people's ideas, etc.). O_O

As the last pic, this is a very original creature and quite frankly not something I'd like to run into. Especially if they swallow these things alive and whole.

I love how you went in depth with the story, habitat, etc. I read all of it and you have quite an in depth imagination for these types of things. Well done!

XD I was using a "gulper dragon" idea with the very same concept you did for RPs on a chat of mine. I never got around to putting it on paper tho or anything. XD You did an awesome job. You should put a background to them. a story behind the creature.
