I wouldn't call it a failure. It's realistic enough, is recognizable as the character - and does have the creepy vibe Gaara has. The face seems a bit off, but its a good try.

This one thinks you are too hard on yourself. This one thinks it's a very good realistic picture of Garra. This one most definatly wouldn't call it a failuer, that he would not.

the lips are kinda messed up. if u did the lips a lil more...un feminent, it would be perfect. other then the kate bosworth lips [link] this looks pretty good.

You can see that it's him in this pic, but I don't think that "real" style "fits" him... Heh.
Anyway... It's a technically good drawing. So... Nice work.

This is beautiful. My only suggestion would be to try to make the hair look less stringy... More shading perhaps? Either way it's way better than I could do.
