Description
Oxalaia quilombensisI had this particular scene in my head for a week now, but didn't have motivation to draw it... UNTIL NOW!
Two Oxalaia wandering around or something. I rarely know myself what animals are doing in my drawings...
Also are whiskers still a thing for Spinosaurids? I haven't seen illustrations with whiskers in some time now, but I like em so I don't care!
UPDATE: It seems already that whiskers are cancer so im sorry for triggering everybody it was a bad idea to add tiny whiskers.

Yeah, whiskers aren't really likely in Spinosaurids, who probably had a crocodile-like face, but speculation amirite?
Anyway, this drawing is lovely, and doing nothing in particular is something that animals tend to do, so...

Uh it's shown bipedal here.
Also, we can't really say for sure, we need more fossils.

Jeez you guys are really hating whiskers meme, just like everybody are hating Ugandan Knuckles now, and some big DA paleoartists used whiskers on Spinosaurids before too. Its a small thing and yet, everyone in the comments here are saying how cancerous this harmless meme is. Mages meh sad.

Sorry if we took it way to hard, it is an idea that was hypothesized but we had no proof of it and those are dangerous if they are treated a a true theory so that's why most may take it to hard.
I liked what you did, I don't know if it accurate but the drawing is mine I do what I want, your drawing you do what you want I'm also against the accuracy patrol.
Just adding a note in the description that this is just was an idea that is inaccurate and so people should not treat it as so, as you kinda did.
We don't wanna mage you sadΒ Β

Yeah i mean if theres no fossil evidence of something it doesn't mean it's not accurate, but i do believe they did not have them. But let's say that those whiskers were part of style of art instead of accuracy? xd

Just say no to spinosaur whiskers. They are contradicted by the rostral foramina and connected neurovascular canals, which indicate the presence of crocodilian-like integumentary sensory organ (ISO's). Additionally, mammalian vibrissae don't attach to foramina in the bone, but rather a complex system of facial muscles. The resemblance between spinosaur rostral foramina and mammalian vibrissae attachments is entirely superficial and whoever started this meme should have known better.

Not to mention the questionable validity of Oxalaia (from my knowledge)

Yeah, I know there are no evidence for whiskers, but I draw Spinosaurids so rarely, Im used to whiskers xd I guess I'll have to move on with the rest and be like everyone :d Also Oxalaia indeed is extremely poorly known, but I always liked the idea of similar in size to Spinosaurus spinosaurid from Brazil

ArminReindl In reply to NordicB3rry [2018-05-30 20:43:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, it would be useful if we got some real clarity when it comes to Spinosaurinae. How valid are the different genera or just how many are there. Are Sigilmassasaurus and Oxalaia just different species of Spinosaurus, are Angatumara and Irritator the same etc.. Speaking of Spinosaurids, this might interest you:Β peerj.com/articles/4785/

I think it is considered valid at this moment, tho I could be wrong. As far as I know Spinosaurus maroccanus is a nomen dubium. Again, maybe I'm wrong, those things seem to change every couple of years.
