If you're going to vector, I suggest starting with Photoshop CS5. That's what I do all my vectors with!

I haven't grown up on photoshop or gimp, so I've actually taken to it fairly well. My drawings are still a little on the meh side; There are some great tutorials on the web, since it's FOSS (Free/Open source software), it's easier to understand how things work internally if you're up for that.
I'm curious, you don't have to answer though. What are you having issues with? Is it a bug in the program, a process of getting lines/shapes to work, or some other behaviour?
