Description
Part of my final art project, due April 21.These are the three bases to the cages [you can see the holes where the bars will go]. Yes, the picture was taken on my bed. Like my sheetz and nifty squishy pillow?
The grey one: That's the one for the huddled over depressed person. When I was doing these I didn't really have anything in particular in mind for what I was doing. I knew I wanted this person's to be just a sort of dull grey. Then as I was doing it, I--funnily enough--got inspiration from Death Note! The sort of windblown greyness makes me think of the Shinigami world, like you're just looking across a boring landscape. Anyway the meaning behind it? That this person is just stuck in this grey dull world created by their own mind....something like that. I still have to work it out a bit more.
The blobby one: That's for the person going crazy. The background is dark because they're in a dark place, emotionally and mentally. The splashes of color represent violence and acting out. This was really fun to do, because I basically just took every color there was and mushed it all together, then occasionally took a specific color and smudged it across the wood. I absolutely love painting--but ONLY when I'm not painting anything specific! I think I'd be more of an abstract painter, hehe.
The yellow one: For the person leaving their cage. I didn't want to make it fully white, firstly because the person himself is going to be white, and secondly because I didn't want it to be just a perfect solid color. Especially white, which represents purity and whole...someness? Being whole. So I chose yellow...I guess because even though it's not perfect, it's not horrible either. And that's what the person is realizing and accepting, is that nothing is perfect, everything has a bit of color smudged into the otherwise perfectly white canvas. And it's up to you as to whether or not that color is dark or light.
I didn't use a paintbrush to do these. My teacher showed me how to create a sort of "wash" of paint, so that underneath you could still see the wood. Or at least still see that it was wood, and it'd give it a more authentic sort of feel to it. So I basically splooshed a blob of color onto a pallet, mixed it around and, when I was happy with the shade, I took a piece of flat cardboard and just smeared the color across the wood. Which is why especially in the white/yellow one you can see lines/strokes. Obviously with the less-than-perfect camera quality, you can't really TELL that it's a wash and not normal painting.
OH WELLZ.
I know this was a long description....sorry! Let me know what y'all think!
P.S.--For the crazy person's cage: I broke a beer bottle [so much fun!!], and it was awesome enough to keep the neck and base of the bottle completely whole. So I came up with this idea to arrange the broken shards on the bottom of the cage in a way that makes it look like you just took the bottle by the neck and cracked it against something, and it's lying there, broken. It looked awesome when I tried it out...I just hope there'll be enough room in there for the person, too!
