Flat colors becomes I'm lame like that.

Originally a spectator for the first UBF, Hotaru came to get away from all her failures. Inevitably, she eventually became something of a rabid fangirl for the competitors. She showed up to join the next year on a whim, for no reason other than "wanting to shine like the stars".
She is kind of oblivious and not that sharp.
Also during the last year, she picked up the odd habit of swearing profanely whenever excited.

Hotaru was born and raised in Sootopolis for the most part, and spent a few years in Sinnoh during her childhood. Thus she can swim, dive, and fish very well. The majority of her pokemon are water types as well. As a child, she was a battle obessed, violent tomboy who went to the gym every day to get beat up. Around her twelfth birthday, she left home to travel and defeat gyms, eventually becoming strong enough to come back and destroy Wallace. Despite her victory, she gave up on the championship after watching his graceful battling, and decided to participate in contests instead, seeking to become like him.
However, Hotaru absolutely sucked at appeals, and only made it past round 1 once, to be quickly defeated by her rival (Chandra's trainer).
She left Hoenn to watch the UBF and this time, to participate as well.

She's a really spacey person and tends to stare off into the distance, not thinking about anything if she's left alone for long enough. She shouts random outbursts a lot, and gets excited easily, but has low stamina and will become worn out by her own enthusiasm in no time. Because of Wallace's influence, she makes an attempt to be kind and feminine. When she battles though, her original personality resurfaces and she transforms into a sadistic, merciless demon.
She's really easily influenced and can be converted into a fangirl easily.

Maruu - Male/Masquerain/Mauville
Hotaru's first pokemon, caught as a surskit near Mauville City when she was five. A flustery, unreliable battler who's prone to launching the wrong attack. Despite being the senior to the rest of the party, they don't treat him like one, and often forget about him entirely. He has a strong sense of HERO due to watching all of Hotaru's sentai shows with her.

Tomoya - Female/Chinchou/Sootopolis
One of Hotaru's earlier pokemon. Tomoya is mentally unstable and bipolar. She is generally pretty friendly and cheerful, but her disposition can change in an instant. She is prone to shocking both people and pokemon and is quite scary for even her trainer to handle. The everstone keeps her from evolving, and therefore, under control.

Darjeeling - Male/Gengar/Traded
Despite his appearance, Darjeeling is a perfect, dapper little gentleman who enjoys fine music and relaxing on sunny afternoons. He always has tea at 3 in the afternoon and will let himself out of his pokeball to do so. The only exceptions he makes for his daily snack is if he is challenged to a duel battling, or if there's a damsel in distress. Although she thinks it's kind of cute, it freaks the hell out of Hotaru that her Gengar is so uncannily human, and she tends to avoid using him for battles.
Darjeeling cannot speak, but can read and write.

Chandra - Male/Gardevoir/Borrowed
A male gardevoir belonging to another trainer, and was a contest counterpart to his brother, a Gallade named Mahal. Since his trainer is still currently out of the region, Hotaru just brought him along for the second UBF. He still has absolutely no devotion towards his current trainer. He is mischievous, petty, selfish, and a complete narcissist.
He also likes using his "feminine" wiles to get what he wants, and manages to portray an image of a manly mature woman when he wants. If he's not trying, he's actually pretty crass and manly and ends up looking like a vulgar kind of girl.

Fleur - Male/Roselia/Gift
Originally a borrowed pokemon, he is now permanently under Hotaru's care. He is a sweet, shy roselia who is kind of a wimp and ends up being dolled up a lot. However, he has a split personality he's not aware of, and if Sunny Day is used, or if it's extremely sunny outside, he becomes an obnoxious, arrogant and aggressive prince-type.

Kiwi - Male/Galvantula/Poached Kidnapped Adopted
Accidentally left behind by an absentminded trainer returning to Unova, Kiwi was forced to stay behind in Slateport City. Chandra, who was with Hotaru at the time, frequently saw the pokemon around the port and decided to make it run errands out of boredom. Kiwi obliged, partly because he had nothing to do, mostly due to a subordinate attitude he unwittingly picked up in his old team. Chandra, who didn't expect much, was delighted with his willingness and speed. So when Hotaru left the city, Chandra just picked up his new found slave and carried him along.
He is constantly out of his pokeball, because well, his pokeball is technically still with his old trainer. Still he acts as a member of the team. He is a jittery, nervous wreck and often charges in recklessly in battles, occasionally before Hotaru's even given a command.

*-* Haa, only two of her pokemon were actually caught by her.
