Description This is a special person in my life. His favorite color is green. His favorite sport is soccer, and his favorite music is found on the Guitar Hero games. Like a lot of kids, he goes to school, and his favorite subject is reading. He loves swimming, computer games, and eating. He likes to dress up as Spider Man for Halloween, and wishes he could be Spider Man in real life. He has his own likes, dislikes, talents, and quirks. He breathes air, his heart beats, his mind thinks, and he has feelings. Oh yeah, by the way, he has autism, but really he’s just another human like you and me, and loves to be treated as one.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." - Henry David Thoreau

Faves, features, comments, and watches are always welcome and extremely appreciated. Thank you for any support in advance (although I will try to thank you personally, sometimes life gets in the way)! If you use this picture, please send a link!

Update: To answer a frequent question I'm seeing: Yes, I am sharing with him his feedback, and no, he didn't technically write the text himself, but he did to the best of his ability, so he deserves the credit. In my opinion, yes he wrote it and deserves the credit because he did his very best and that's all anyone can do.

I don't have autism, but I have asperger syndrome, and this touched my little aspie heart. <3 I can really relate to this! (I have a problem with telling people that I'm an aspie, because I'm afraid of being judged.) My brother, my father and a friend of mine also, most likely, has asperger. That's probably why I haven't gone crazy.... Haha... To be able to be understood by someone is really relieving. Another friend of mine has got an aspie friend though, she only make jokes about how lame he is. I get really angry with her some times....

I absolutely love this. I myself have Aspergers, and I had trouble trying to fit in for the majority of my Primary school days. Everything you have said is true - everyone's a human being, and autism isn't even a bad thing, it makes sufferers see the world in their own special way.

But yes, I love this. Well done. xx

You should send this to a Autism magazine! This would be a great photo for an article about accepting autism!

Yes people with autism are also people, I know how you feel. My little brother has PDD-NOS and my bigger one also have a form of autism.

Thank you to you and him, for making my night and reminding me what matters in life. I'd go up and kiss my kids good night again, but they're asleep now!

Wonderful picture.
Being diagnosed myself with (a mild form) of autism, I especially like the fact that you point out in the description that we are still people too. A little bit stranger than most, true, but that's what makes everyone unique.

I have a son, Dante, who has a mild form of Autism, PDD/NOS. I asked him the other day if he was happy (being a 16 year old, he goes through a lot). His answer was "Yeah." He's brilliant, even if his sense of humour is a bit odd, and is being recruited by some high-end colleges. He has some difficulties, but he's learned that a sense of humour and a little understanding goes a long, long way. Thank you for this lovely tribute to all those who are just a little different.
