Description I was in church drawing my own flame control array [link] and I realized that is was stupid the way that the elements system was set up. If you flip an element over, its the opposite element. I was getting sick of confussion arrising from this, so I went on ahead and edited the elements system (dont worry, I can do it)
THINGS TO KNOW
Anything repressenting fire will work for Flame. I chose the sun because I could.
With water, any two lines will work whether straight, wavy, sharp, etc.
Also notice that no matter how much you rotate the cubicles, the dont ressemble each other enough to cause confusion about which element it is.
My job is done...

No. Not that I know of. I may have. Idk.

As a true 'modern alchemist' (that is, what alchemy evolved in to - Chemistry; i.e. a chemistry student) and a practitioner of different, let's say, arts I feel it's important that people realise that almost any symbol may be employed so long as both the practitioner and the viewer are aware of each symbol's meaning.
- That is, by using the traditional elemental-fire symbol you are creating (if I may use such a word) an age-old transmutation - whilst using a newer / personalised symbol, you are formulating a transmutation that will only be recognised by those you have taught.

- In short: changing symbols isn't dangerous (unless you're idiotic enough to substitute an open, unprotected circle in place of a carefully prepared layout with full warding during a daemon-summoning ritual...)

IRL (sorry) Chemistry:
Aluminium and Aluminum (Al) both represent the same chemical element. - So long as your audience are aware of your intention, it's all good.

Okay, long and pointless rant over. Feel free to ignore me, everyone else does...

This is no pointless rant. Tis the Truth!
And you lay down a very good point. I actually hope people will read this because it does make a good point.

For air, I would actually suggest a loop inside the triangle, instead of the hook towards the end. That way it can still be incorporated with the circle proper, or other parts of it.

As a novice in alchemy, I actually prefered the classical symbols that represented the four elements. Traditional alchemist made the symbols like that because it was symbolic towards fire was the element that would always move upwards (thus why it is a triangle pointing up) and water would always move downwards (thus the triangle pointing down). It's the same with air and earth, however it had a line sticking through it to symbolize how they were restricted and never quite reached all the way.

Still, I can understand why it might get a little confusing, so kudos for making this. It's very clever.

No problem. Of course, I'm still a little new at this kind of stuff.

I'm also dabbling into the philosophical concepts behind alchemy as well, which I honestly never really knew existed. It's all for the sake of an original novel series I'm trying to write. Since FMA's alchemy is a little different from the traditional aspects, I decided to start from scratch in an attempt to not completely rip-off Arakawa's work. XD

Dude that's awesome. TBH I'm doing the same thing, so am just gathering notes and understanding of all aspects of Alchemy (fictional and real) in order to design my own variations of it. I plan to incorporate the concept of circles as a way of focusing the energy of a system, or drawing energy from outside the system, but they are unable to be used independently of chemistry and thus must be used in conjunction with symbols for apparatus incorporated into their design as locations for them be placed in.

Smart idea! While I still draw FMA arrays because people will search for those first, the concept of traditional alchemy is so much better. And Im the same way, I'm working on a book. Only its just how to draw the arrays, not anything like the philosophical aspects. I might try that one day, but for now people want to learn how to draw them.

It comes in very handy. Trust me when I say these are what you need to use in transmutation circles.
