Yo people! Here's the painting process of my latest artwork. I hope you guys can glean something from it and I'm writing a bit more about the steps below.

   STEPS:

1. Rough Sketch: Just a quick sketch to get the idea down. I wanted to paint a picture with N and Zorua, near a fountain and town centre. ALSO you can see it's okay if the image sucks at the beginning

2. Colour Scheme: So after doing the sketch, I quickly painted some colours really sloppily just to get a feel for the image.

3. PERSPEctive: Made a quick perspective grid and then did a slightly more detailed sketch on top of it. Also started looking at reference images to help make it look more believable.

4. Refined Colour Scheme: I refined the colour scheme from earlier on to make it more like what it would be in the finished painting. Also made a more detailed sketch of N.

5. Colour Blocking + Lineart: Blocked in the colours for the elements in the background in the separate layers. Also did clean lines for N and blocked in his colours.

6. Shading: Did a quick pass on the shadows in the BG. Also drew in Zorua and the others.

7. Refining BG elements: Refined all the BG elements, including the fountain. Shaded in the characters near it as well and painted the shrub near N..lol finally. Also shaded N some more.

8. Finished shading + lighting: Cleaned up the shadows and basically finished up all the lighting and shading in here. Pretty much done at this point.

9. Adjustments: Added in some brightness, touches of warmth in places and blurred some areas to make it easier to focus. And it is done!

Hope ya guys found it insightful ^ ^ Lemme know if you have any questions!
Thanks for looking,
Ciao for now!!

I've been trying to figure it out, but I just can't discern what the vertical blue lines in the perspective stage are for. Are they just rough guidelines for you to determine verticals? But it looks like you're using line tools and such to get straighter lines (Not cheating at all), so I can't think of why vertical guidelines would be helpful in that case. Could you enlighten me?

Oh, haha yeah they're just guidelines for the verticals! I actually didn't use the line tool (kinda incovenient to use imo), I found it easier to have all the guidelines to be there while sketching, even though I probably didn't have to have the verticals drawn, just made it easier for me to see the lines there. I painted with a brush and using the shift technique to make straight lines most of the times, so it helped to have them there. Basically just preference, sorry if it seemed confusing!

Oh wow perspective grid lines! just learned to do that from Scott Robertson, so much trouble, yet so helpful, also, the last step is Color Dodge Time™?

Words cannot describe how epic this is. Seems like a long process too, but with a high payoff!😀

Oh my thank you so so very much!!! It was a pretty long process, esp compared to my usual paintings which are usually done in 2-4 hours haha, so it was kinda challenging for me. I'm really glad you think the payoff is high tho! Really really means a lot to me!

Ha ha ha, yeah I can tell it would roughly take about that long. I've been working towards getting that good at it too (despite me rarely attempting it myself) so it's great to see it work out so well. Sometimes challenges are what we need.

Woooot a complex process >o< How much time did it take to finish it Mon? Comparing to you I'm too impatient, I probably would stop on step 5 and finish such piece in ages later x'D Great work girl !!

Yo Ewelina ma friend!! Lol I think I complicated it too much XDDD It took like um 22ish hours, spread over 5 days. I'm super impatient as well, but I really wanted to push myself and paint something nicer for a change XD So I just went with it. Thanks so much yo! I'm so glad ya think so
