The Chronicles of Day and Dream is rather ambitious manga project of mine. I have quite a lot of things thought already, although the main plot needs refinement. I don't know if I ever will get to draw the whole story, but I might as well do some tests and practice while I'm at it.Ibisu is my most recent character design and she helps me quite a lot with the story. She is one of the links to the past, so she knows a lot. The history of the events in CoDD is surprisingly vast and detailed already. She isn't giving off that information easily though. These pages are somewhere from the middle of the story when Joseph, the protagonist, already has met Ibisu several times.

My main purpose with these manga pages was to practice using Clip Studio Paint. I'm planning to migrate from Paint Tool SAI to CSP. I'll likely keep drawing most drawing on SAI while focusing on comics with CSP. It has pretty awesome tools, but sadly its brush dynamics don't feel quite as natural as on SAI. It also lacks some really basic functions that I'm accustomed to use in SAI, such as changing pressure sensitivity on the fly or changing hue and saturation on multiple layers at the same time.

I have an ambitious project too, so I understand that it requires time and dedication, and the more you have elements in your story, even though you cut off the useless parts, you will discover the story needs more and more information to be solid enough.

She is mischievous and cunning, but also more mature than many other mecha musumes out there. She has experienced a lot.
I like when there is a lot of back stories behind the main story. It's so fun when every little detail can be tied to the history and could be explained if it's necessary for story at some point.

Really nicely put together, well paced between the dialogue and frames. I particularly like how the narrow, full width, panel on the first page, combined with the change of lighting on Ibisu's face, help define and smooth the somewhat whiplash change of mood.
She's an interesting character... Β though I also suspect her past is not a pleasant one (even if we had not been somewhat informed of it in your other pieces) To be brutally honest, these two pages give me a much better feel for her than the character sheet did. Raw stats tend to leave me a little cold
I would be curious to know how they got that far into the middle of nowhere though as well

Thanks. I'm pleased how this turned out. I wanted to have some clear change to the atmosphere and arouse the curiosity of the readers.
I was surprised how defined history I came up for Ibisu when I settled with her being a surveillance bot. She is quite interesting character indeed. In my character sheets, I'm not really explaining anything about the characters but rather the specifications and role of the units.
They will be roaming around vast wastelands most of the time. The story will (hopefully) explain why

Do you know how I determine if I like a manga or not? For a good manga, it only takes 2-3 pages to make me want to read the whole story. And that is the case with your test pages here. I don't know how to put it, it's like I immediately get the feeling that there is so much more going on between the lines.Β
In any case, I'm looking forward to see more from The Chronicles of Day and Dream!

Hehe, thanks! That was my goal, to make it feel that there is more into this than what is shown that is. While I don't have much about the actual story, I have a lot of content about the history.

I'd definitely be interested in reading more. I really like how 3D you're able to get your characters to look even in manga style. I find most others to look kind of flat. It gives your art a nice pop and life to it. Hope to see more of this in the future!

I have very rough idea for the script, but nothing more than several notes. I have mostly focused on the events preceding the main story. It's fun to tie the story to the past. Every time I come up something that has happened in the past, it immediately reflects to the story and makes it easier to come up new ideas.

Additionally I like the variety of framing - but it's not *too* jazzy. (I hate chaotic framing. Prefer a nice sensible yonkoma, actually) On the same note, for a scene involving only two characters and quite static as regards action (a dialogue), you're making nice moves with the 'camera', building the scene but also zeroing in on those crucial closeups.Β

That hair takes some time, but luckily it's not extremely hard.
Since this wasn't action shot, I had to come up with other ways to keep the pages interesting. Camera angles, balance between general and close views and cropping does the trick.
