Description This is one of my favorites. I saw a beautiful Derpy Hooves with mail and a bag and thought - hey I'd love to do something like that! So I hopped right on the project and this is what I created! The letters were VERY annoying to make because they are so small and stuck to everything. I tried to give the mail bag a leathery look by painting it a light brown and then watering down a dark brown and painting a thin layer of that on top. In person it looks kind of creased and like old leather so I was really happy.

You really are! Your customs are such an amazing quality! And...this may be an odd compliment, but so smooth! I struggle the most with getting my ponies smooth. Idk whether it is the paint I use or what lol, but my ponies just aren't that smooth!

I'm convinced smoothness is the bane of the pony customizer's existence. The trick is to build up the paint in thin layers with a very soft brush, like ones you'd use for watercolors. It's literally the most tedious process in the world. I'd recommend craft paints over tube acrylics, as the latter tend to hold on to brush strokes. Then when you seal everything, use Mod Podge and water it down. When you've applied your coat of Mod Podge, go over the whole pony with a very wet brush. It will even out any brush strokes you might have missed. Welcome to my Hell.

Hmmm. I wonder if switching to mod podge would help. I've been using the matte varnish from Duraclear. And I use Americana and the equivalent paints usually. I'm coming off of craft smart. Because I learned my lesson about cheap paints and the 5 bajillion layers they require! And yes, no one but myself seems to notice how NOT smooth by ponies are. (though I don't know how they don't see it) but it drives me INSANE. I'll definitely try some of your advice Thanks so much!

Everyone seems to see mistakes in their own work more clearly. Good luck!

See now I wish I could have done this. But my commissioner wanted a mail bag and letters they could play with XD

I love your little chibi letters!

Aww thank you! I had an extra letter that I wanted to be able to come in and out, but my letters were too fat lol, and then I was going to just give it away with Derpy, but I left it at home! Oh wells. And yeah, I've stayed away from using any cloth on my customs, so nothing removable. But omg...a derpy beanie with mailbags? I just got excited. I'm going to spend all my money on you! haha

I think my next Derpy will have some muffins or something though. And I promised my friend Rob (the one behind my booth?) that I would make him a Derpy with a bag in exchange for helping out

Lol.. OMG now I want to make a mail bag XD

I meant this Derp: [link]

Made paper envelopes and sculpted a bag onto one of my princess accessories. Also, muffins! The kid wanted an action figure with accessories he could play with, lol.

Ooooo okay. Well I'm adding Derpy with mailbag beanie to my list of things to commission from you! (just let me know when you have the time!)

And that is awesome! Very impressed that it was interactive. That is kind of beyond me I think

Awww! <3 Well I just blew my own mind with my sculpt for Young Granny Smith. I'm really pleased with her. I mean, the braids are a BIT thick. Next time I'd make them much smaller over all. But I'm so thrilled with her hat lol
