Description
For NationStates; Modeled in DoGa with custom and regular parts and textures.----
The Type-59 is my second pass at modeling a warship for the FutureTech version of Macisikan's space fleet. The initial inspiration as shared were the ConFed ships from 'Escape Velocity', though I've steered somewhat away from that towards a 'futuristic space submarine' vibe; He likes it and one supposes that's all that matters. Without provided details, I've filled in some of the technicalities myself:
The various ships of the UIK Fleet follow much the same pattern, regardless of size or purpose. They are a sleek but utilitarian tapered cylinder with most of the weapons and secondary systems mounted forward of the notable faster-than-light drive rings and their distinctive armor belts. Some ships have one, some have two. These are then followed by the main sub-light drives and their radiator arrays (the drives themselves are thrust-less - the 'nozzles' are part of the main radiator array). A short wing-like structure aft of the drive rings mounts additional weapon systems as well as the main battle screen projectors. Some vessels will have a second similar structure forward of the drive rings as well.
The forward 'nose cone' mounts the 'forward beam array', which mounts multiple heavy beams that can be fired as a volley for long-range saturation fire or columnated into a single beam for short-range kill-shots. The two towers are the communications and sensor arrays. These are typically raised for regular operations and lowered in battle, reducing their sensitivity but limiting their exposure. There are small craft bays located forward of the drive rings; This will vary by model. It should be noted that UIK ships are, like those of the Republic (Me), nearly completely solid with few if any 'biological' crew - though the UIK does not yet make use of the Eien or similar remote environments.
All UIK ships are designated by Type-### (Prime Number) rather than Class or Purpose. Macisikan is largely opaque to outsiders and this is just another way to keep their privacy.
