Description
A tear shed aloneNobody cares for a freak
I cry for myself
This is 02, the final boss of kirby 64. Yeah, nuff said about that.
So yeah, remember this from like a year ago? XP Finally got around to finishing it. Started it as a gift for a friend of mine, actually...now I can send it to him. X3
Sort of XP Was wondering if I should add a background or not...
But yeah, I used prismacolors for the red wings, blood, and halo. The rest was like 40 year old rosearts (not even exaggerating there)
So yeah, quite happy with how this turned out. Sorry again Drasus for messiin up some of your pencils ^-^;

Fffff, I already showered you with praise on this one. I bet you can upgrade your astral pouch now, amirite? -shot for nerdiness-
-revive seed- Yeah, you did a good job on this, honey. The vibrancy of the red in contrast with the white is awesome, and that halo effect you used is pretty kickass too. Heck, I even like your emotastic haiku, thar. XD
My observations are: The eye is much duller than the rest of the red. I know it's partially the crap pencils, but you could've probably gone over that with prismacolors. Those things are pretty hardcore. And don't be afraid to bust them up a little, it's not the end of the world. :3(You can buy me new ones for christmas if you want. XD ) And the jelly like consistency of the blood is strange. Blood is somewhere between water and cream in thickness, it's totally weird. Plus, you left some of the pencil outline in the halo. While not the end of the world, white lines there would look better. Next time, it might help to make some yellow marks around your plain pencil outline before erasing, and then be sure to erase those original lines. Or, maybe try putting extra white over those spots next time. That might help. Either way, YOU DID WELL!
-shot again for nerdiness, is out of reviver seeds-

fanks for everything, hon.
I had someone else say to use cold colors in the shadows and warmer colors in the bright parts or something, but I didn't really know what they meant...

No prob, baby.
Yeah, that's good advice. If you'd used cool colors for the shadows, it would've made the red stand out a little more. Same if you did a background in cool colors.
(cool colors are colors like blue and green, warm colors are ones like red and yellow, in case you didn't know. Cool colors tend not to pop out as much; warm ones tend to stick out. It's not the most important thing, but it can help you out when you're coloring.)

I know what they are, but I don't get how you use blue or something on something that's red :S

Naw, you put the blue on the shadows of the white part. Not on the red.

he was talking about the red though. sorry, forgot to specify.

Oh. Well... Then he must be crazy or something, because that would just be weird. XD You'd make purple.

that seemed to be what he was getting at when i asked him, and i even remember reading that in a color tutorial before :S

I dunno, that's just what I think. With those colored pencils, it'd be difficult. Unless you planned it out before hand, and somehow found a cool red to use, if one exists. Otherwise, it'd look really strange. > >

I dunno...i really don't. i mean, they blend well, so...ugh, i have no clue. i suck at seeing things still >_<

They blend, but they don't go over top of eachother like that. Not usually. It works with white, but nothing else ever fully changes color in my experience.

Mmmm... Not really. They mix more than cover. But most typical colored pencils probably don't cover at all. It's weird.
Doh. Well. Hm. Yeah, I still wouldn't recommend that, personally. I dunno, it just looks weird in my head. Feel free to try it out, though. Take some scrap paper and scribble around, shade some simple spheres. Who knows, he might be onto something I never tried.

Doh, well that would probably work. Iono, -shrug- that's not what I usually do. Things like that are much easier with paint, I think. But there's no real reason you can't do it with colored pencil. Heck, I might try that kinda shading sometime. We'll just have to figure it out together.

Derp. Well ask him what he uses, because I have never used one quite THAT good. Prismacolors are almost like that, but paint is way better at covering something up.

I already did, he said "any good quality ones"

Drasus In reply to Nucklez [2010-07-12 02:00:38 +0000 UTC]
Well gee. That's superbly helpful. Cuz all these years I thought I was using "good quality ones", but they don't behave like paint. They behave more like pastels. Perhaps I need to rethink my brand choice, then. Since there are obviously magical, paint-like colored pencils out there. :\

i dunno, the primas seem to blend well to me...i mean, not like watercolors, but i think they blend better since they aren't so damn touchy. i don't really know anything like you do, though, so i'm probably wrong...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Drasus In reply to Nucklez [2010-07-12 02:15:14 +0000 UTC]
They blend, but they don't paint. With paint, you can entirely cover something, with a prismacolor pencil, you can blend it a lot. It's really not the same at all.
Oh, you know I'm not saying you're wrong. I just think your friend there might not really know what he's saying about "good colored pencils."

...what? I'm confused. He said the pencils blended like paint. He seemed to know exactly what he was talking about...

Drasus In reply to Nucklez [2010-07-12 03:10:19 +0000 UTC]
Oh, blended. Well yeah, they can do that. But they won't let you fix a mistake quite like paint, which is why paint is sometimes better. With pencils, you can only do so much, though. You'll be hard pressed to get something to even show up if you've gone over it already.

very good. the coloring is a little if but other than that great shading and great character choice. a background woulda been kewl and awesome but it could ruin the character and seem kinda blah but i like with/without background either way. so very good anyways.
