Description
I had no internet, so I've been very absent, I beg your pardon.
I've been working on my portfolio, and I decided to redesign a famous series of the 60s, Hanna-Barbera Wacky races (los autos locos). This was a very original series for its time, with many colorful characters, funny cars and an archetypal villain as the main character Dick Dastardly (Pierre Nodoyuna), a real loser and unlucky guy with a terrible tendency to exaggerated traps (but the label of "cheater" is today quite unfair, after all, the race was characterized by "everything is allowed to win" and many competitors were just as "cheats" to him). There have been remakes and attempts to revive the series "Wacky Races Forever" and "Fender Bender 500" (curiously, Dick won a race in this show) but these products never jelled in the love the public
From now on, I will use the original names (the usa names) to talk about the characters, and and do not use Castilian versions (Pierre Nodoyuna, Patán, Penélope Glamour y Pedro Bello). This is more comfortable.
In my designs, I have tried to find the original retro aesthetic, a setting from the 60s-70s (the hairstyle of Penelope, or the Bell-bottoms and "the Beatle" boot of Dick Dastardly). I tried to keep some resemblance to the original design, while adding new details (like luciferin billy-goat beard of Dick Dastardly, that it exaggerates his appearance wicked) For example, the dog Muttley has not changed much, but the original design was too lovely to do something drastic.
This is the second design that I do for Peter Perfect, the gallant gentleman and the love of Penelope Pitstop: At first, my idea for the character was different, see the first design iluvendure.deviantart.com/art/… . But then I realized that he was not attractive and Peter Perfect had to be attractive. I really like my original design, and I'm a little sad about the change, but I think the new design is better. I change the color "red" of his clothes by the magenta, a feminine color, to break the stereotype that "pink" color is not manly (the pink magenta color is very masculine) the pink symbolizes passion and beauty.
The character that if has undergone a drastic change from my design has been Penelope Pitstop. Why? The original character of 60s was terribly sexist (The Compact Pussycat original was a horror).
Indeed, I have split one character into two different characters, the mother and daughter. I have always believed that the character of "Wacky Races" might not be the same character of "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop" and I wanted to play with that idea. The two "penelope" seem to live in different times and have different personalities ("The Perils of Penelope Pitstop" is set in 1930 and "Wacky Races" is set in 1960-70) and I thought it might be fun to see Penelope in "Wacky Races "as the daughter of the protagonist of" the Perils of Penelope Pitstop " (without a really good family relationship).
And (this is the most drastic change) she has ceased to be a "Pretty in Pink" to be a "Pretty in Blue". I do not hate the color pink, but this color has become a stereotype too exaggerated and sexist, and it's time to break the rules (the little girl Riley has more reason than a saint). Blue is a color that symbolizes tranquility, intelligence, confidence or kindness, but is usually a color for the boys, and that should not be. I wanted to make a beautiful Penelope, and even a bit corny (because that's the character) but also reflect more complexity in the character (more Brigitte Bardot, and less Paris Hilton) independent ideas and desires, and temperament committed (and away from her original superficiality)

So, if Penelope Pitstop I is from The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, may I ask what happened to Sylvester Sneekly, A.K.A. The Hooded Claw? In prison, perhaps? Or is he still out there, still plotting the downfall of Mrs. Pitstop I and her daughter?
Wouldn't it be interesting if Sylvester Sneekly was related to Dick Dastardly (perhaps Dick's uncle or something)?

I like your idea about The Hooded Claw and Dick are relatives..

Of course Sylvester Sneekly has to be present in the story, it is a shadow that has persecuted the destiny of the mother and the daughter: After all the "sins of the parents" always affect the destiny of the children, and Mrs Pitstop has many hidden secrets to discover (like the name of Penelope Jr.'s father) I could say that "Sylvester Sneekly" has returned to seek revenge, but things are not always as they seem
and Speaking ofthe relations between Sylvester Sneekly and Dick ... well, there are things that I'm going to keep in the mystery in my idea for these characters, but let's say that Dick's grandparents have a common past with Sylvester Sneekly, but also many other characters are related in some way to Sylvester without they know this

One could aso Infer that Yankee-Doodle Pigeon does most of the winning for Peter, considering the guy's vehicle broke down more often that he ever actually crossed the finish line.

It is not a bad thought XD
the truth, Peter was not as good a race driver as he looked, normally, his car always had destroyed, rather curious thing because this had phallic appearance

I'm not sure I dig what you did with the Compact Pussycat. I mean, there's just so many opportunities to play on the feline these with the Gadgets and what-not.
Fun Fact: Prior to the 1940's Pink was generally considered a masculine color for it's harsh hues while the softer blue was seen as feminine.

yeah, it is very curious how the symbolism of the colors have changed over the years
Well, I tried to make a woman's car, but much nicer and less ridiculous, a car with lips is silly
but I could be wrong with the change

Interestingly Penelope was just an afterthought. They realized they needed a female and threw her concept together in an hour so this is an improvement.

Love it, especially the two Penelopes and youre right about Dick, I too think its unfair to label him thus; not to mention he does win a race but the people behind the race rigged it so that he doesnt
and youre spot on about the colour blue- I too like pink but I dont think girls should only be associated with it, and I actually like Penelope in blue

thank you very much for writing. I'm glad you think Penelope is beautiful in blue, in truth, I love very much this design, and I think that although she has wide hips, she looks lovely
Dick was a bit bastard, but a loveable asshole very unlucky, actually I think it was unfair that he was considered a trickster villain

I think Dastardly is considered a cheater because he gets out of his car and sets traps to try and alter the race standings that way. All the other racers may be just as bad, but at least they stick to what's already in their vehicles. The tragic part is, he doesn't even need to cheat, if he's just keep driving he'd easily outpace the other Wacky Racers, but I guess Dick figures that if it's worth doing honestly, it's not worth doing at all.
