Description
So I'm over a month or so late for this, but basically I did this in memory of William Dufris, the original voice of the American Bob The Builder [also an English VA for Arsène Lupin III ] who passed away on March 24, 2020. Though I was never as crazy for Bob the Builder as I was for Thomas the Tank Engine, as a kid I always found it cool and fun to watch. The show had a simple, yet wholesome quality to it that made the ordinarily mundane concept of construction fun to watch. Sure, it got a bit trite when 'Project Build-It' came around [and to say nothing of the unappealing reboot] but I think it says something that the classic years of the show have lasted through the years in my memory.[Also; don't bother looking for a video if the classic american theme song, you won't be able to find it without watching a full episode attached to it, while at the same time getting, like, 10 other different versions]
While the DUPLO BtB sets weren't anything that special, they were -and still are, to a degree] more than enough to satisfy the need for a brand crossover, much like DUPLO Thomas. Still, as a kid, I would often try to replicate the characters with system Legos, admittedly, to little success. Of course, with LDD, success is now possible, and its extremely satisfying to have the full Bob's Building Yard crew represented in Brick form [albeit, digital]
The scale is notably a bit off, Dizzy is at least half a size too big compared to Bob and Wendy, and obviously Roley is way too big [I had trouble even getting him down to that scale] Much like in the show, the cabins on Scoop and Roley can slant back and forth, though Lofty I think actually looks the best, missing only the smile and/or frown on the plate representing his lips. All the machines more or less have the exact same functions as in the show, though Dizzy's cement drum can't spin or pour loose contents, and Roley's eyes don't move the same way [they move up and down rather than swiveling around]
Scoop [my favorite of the machines] looks a bit off compared to the others, but functionally he works almost the exact same way as the real one, the only difference being that the lid on his scooper moves differently.
I'd have included Travis and Spud [as the theme song does] but neither are a construction vehicle or worker, and Spud's nose would be pretty hard to pull off at the moment.
Anyway, I'm rather happy with how this turned out, the characters look great and I can easily see my 8-year-old self absolutely losing it over these.
RIP, William Dufris; the best Bob whoever built it
