Description

Another color swap, though I did briefly consider building his RWS basis and coloring that green, instead. The problem with that, though, is that No.2/‘Stanley’s’ shape greatly resembles both Ivo Hugh’s and Fearless Freddie’s, not to mention he’d also be confused for the standard gauge engine, also named ‘Stanley’. So, in the end, I just went for the arguably more iconic repaint of Rheneas.

Yeah, its not an American model, like he was meant to be in RWS, but it gets the job done.

In regards to his ultimate fate; while many accept that he died after the railway closed and was flooded -the RWS actually had him transferred to a mine on another railway, where he also worked as a generator, but apparently he caused that mine to flood and was presumably scrapped; I like to think he spent the next few decades changing hands as he kept being a pain in the buffers to his various owners, before finally ending up as a coal furnace for a small church in an American city [which is directly inspired by the ending to ‘Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel’, and actually isn’t that different from the fate of the IRL engine that inspired Smudger, which, ironically, actually had Duke’s basis] and its there where Smudger finally decides to not put up a fuss and just do his job, befriending the caretakers and becoming rather pleasant.

There is also the theory that he was actually rebuilt into Bertram, and while that theory is interesting, I prefer my headcanon
