Blade Runner-esque. I love it.

Now that you mention it it does seem very Los Angeles circa 2019

Again. I am thoroughly impressed with your design skills, partner. This is a great piece, and I do like the basis from the Mateba Autorevolver. One design feature that I might be able to suggest to capitalize on the design would be to dump the side-swing cylinder opening. Look into the top-break with the auto-ejector, like from the MP-412.

The one problem that would have to be addressed is the potential warping of the metal at the point of the swivel.

Yup, chiefly inspired by the Mateba M2006M and the Unica revolvers.

I was planning on making it top-break, but (being the good mechanical engineer that I am) I was worried about stress concentration at both the swivel and the top of the weapon. Using the upward-swing system seemed like a good way to keep the frame more or less in one piece and thereby boost structural integrity

Plus, like you noticed, using top-break would mean I would have to bulk up the area around the swivel. This would mean I'd have to lower the position of the trigger and grip relative to the cylinder, which sorta negates the whole point of having the weapon fire from the bottom barrel for recoil reduction.

Oh, hell. I shouldn't be talking. But, I have a question for the qualified. What about that design idea with a stronger, lighter metal?

Nyandgate In reply to KahunaSniper [2012-01-26 23:48:22 +0000 UTC]

Possible. Titanium revolvers are popular in the concealed-carry world, I'm told. The cost of manufacture would go up, though. Some sort of metamaterial dream-substance (cheap, strong, light) would make the top-break design more plausible, of course.

Cheap isn't likely, though. Sort of why something of that sort is labeled "Unobtanium". Correct?

Yup. Cost efficiency is the bane of the industry engineer

Very nice! I just have one question: where's the cylinder release?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyandgate In reply to RoninPsycho [2012-01-26 18:41:05 +0000 UTC]

I was planning on having the thing that looks like the 'hammer' be the cylinder release; the actual hammer is completely internal (like in the Smith and Wesson 642). Since the hammer has to strike the bottom chamber rather than the top, the striker assembly would have to be located much lower than it would be in a normal revolver, leaving room on top of the gun for the release.

...or is that too silly?

RoninPsycho In reply to Nyandgate [2012-01-26 19:37:03 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I had a feeling that was it. No, that's not "silly" at all. I really like this design. I like similarly designed revolvers, like the Chiappa Rhino and the Mateba Autorevolver. The way the cylinder swings out is a bit odd, though, so it would take come getting used to.

Now, here's my question: do you plan on designing a similar one for .44 Magnum?

Nyandgate In reply to RoninPsycho [2012-01-26 19:49:52 +0000 UTC]

I think it could be done by enlarging the bore and reinforcing the barrel... but I'm a bit bored with this design. I might come back to it later

That is a huge freaking revolver. Looks very Mateba inspired. I personally don't like the upwards-opening cylinder, though. Makes reloading more of a pain.

Lol you wrote it in japanese, this should be posted in danbooru :3

jk mate, looks awesome, though I don't understand much about how it even works, someone should model this in 3D

Nyandgate In reply to PriceRification [2012-01-26 07:23:59 +0000 UTC]

Technically, it -was- modeled roughly in 3D so that I could get a general idea of how it was proportioned in three-point perspective

Get ready... :3

it's Heidemarie HM-8, inspired from M41A Pulse Rifle but it shoots real ammunition, has a bullet counter on the side and it will prompt us to reload when the whole magazine is empty, like TS Type-19

I'll send you the pic later

Awesome design! Reminds me of [link] still can't understand why those under barrel revolvers are so underestimated. The under barrel assists in easier weapon control. Anyway, I got carried away, impressive work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyandgate In reply to CadianConcript [2012-01-26 06:56:31 +0000 UTC]

It's most likely because the hammer design is complex... which defeats the point of a revolver, whose strength lies in simplicity and reliability. Or so I've been told. You might notice the hammer design on this weapon is deliberately vague

But never mind real-life problems - I like under-barrel > Thanks!

CryonIndustries In reply to Nyandgate [2012-03-01 16:12:58 +0000 UTC]

Best part of the design is that the barrel is in line with the shooter's hand, reducing muzzle flip quite a bit.
