PERSONALITY:
Vera can’t help but puzzle over the mysteries of the universe, she strives for knowledge. She’s exceptionally creative, inventive, bright and smart. Mostly consulting in her own thoughts, Vera is often seen as introverted rather than extroverted. This is due to her seeing many others as unimaginative and simple-minded. Vera is very adaptable and flexible, being able to thrive in different settings and adjust to changes. She strives to teach herself topics that interest her, rather than learning from others. She’s observant and sticks to the side rather than the spotlight, having little patience for gossip or “chit-chat”. In other words, she’d rather be right than well-liked. Vera prefers doing things on her own, mostly because she doesn't like waiting around for others to catch up. Because of this she frequently feels disconnected and isolated from others.
Vera is not a strict rule follower, quite the opposite. She has a bad habit of bending and breaking rules in her favor. She has little patience for strict rules and unjust social expectations. Vera’s judgment at times is clouded due to her ignoring her and others emotions. She acts with reason and logic, never without thoroughly thinking first. Rational and quick-witted, she prides herself for her uncanny talent for seeing right through liars and phonies. Vera is a rather sarcastic, sharp-witted, and humorous person. She is witty and isn’t below making sarcastic remarks, especially when it amuses her. As well as being brash, she can come off as “rude”, while mostly not intending to. She can have a slightly aggressive nature at times, especially when others argue or fight with her. She isn’t one to judge others for appearance or social status, but rather on how they act and think. Vera is untrusting of new people, it takes her some time to warm up to someone.
Despite her outward introverted and critical personality, she’s there for her friends if they need her. Loyalty pl
ays a big part of her life, she’s fully dedicated to the people she considers friends and family. She absolutely loves immersing herself in conversations with people who really get her (having a good sense of humor and striving for knowledge). Friendships come in a different form for Vera - she prefers friendships where she merely enjoys the other's company and can talk endlessly about random subjects. She struggles with the absence of people close to her, especially family, due to her parents death at a young age.
Though her logic and rationality get in the way of her friendships, as she feels she cant support someone if she doesn’t agree with them. Nonetheless, she’s always trying to adapt - opening up and expressing her emotions more.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
- Gravity Manipulation - After being experimented on by the Reach for the Meta-Gene, Vera developed the ability to manipulate gravity. Vera is able to increase and decrease gravity, thus making objects or people float or weigh more/less. She is also able to control her own gravitational field allowing her to move faster, be more agile and mobile, levitate, and conserve stamina.
Applications/Techniques:
Personal Gravity - Decrease the pull of gravity on oneself to move faster, increase agility and mobility, leap greater distances, and levitate.
Gyro-Telekinesis - Interact/Move/Manipulate matter/objects using gravity
Gravitation Adaptation + Defiance - Adapt to gravitational pressure and ignore effects of gravity
Gravity Detection - Detect gravitational fields
Gravity Immobility - Stop objects and people by increasing the gravity around them
Gravitational Downforce - Drastically increases the gravity in a certain area, causing everything to slam downward.
Gravitational Upforce - Drastically decreases the gravity in a certain area, causing everything to float upward.
- Systema - Vera is skilled in the Russian martial art Systema.
WEAKNESSES
Anti-gravity - Without gravity in a given space, Vera is unable to use her ability as she needs gravity and cannot create it, only manipulate it.
Concentration - Vera needs focus and concentration to manipulate gravity. She can manipulate gravity on a smaller scaler very easily, not requiring much concentration. This includes, but not limited to, smaller objects and shorter distances. Large distances and objects/people and in multitude require Vera to have total concentration and her getting distracted can affect her ability.
Physical Strain - Using her ability for a long period or affecting larger/multiple objects at a time causes Vera to become physically weakened.
Range - Vera can only manipulate objects and people within a certain distance from her. The further the distance, the less gravitational pull she can manipulate.
HISTORY
Vera grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia with her grandpa, Arseny Vasiliev. A former popular cosmonaut who now owned one of the biggest Planetariums in Russia. He helped teach students about astronomy and in his spare time taught cosmonaut cadets. Vera’s parents died at a very young age and she was left in her grandfather's care, who she deeply adored. He was a kind man who cherished life and treated Vera very well, often spoiling her. She was never told how her parents died and never questioned it, as she barely remembered them. Though, she often heard family friends, that came to visit, talking about "them strangely just disappearing" and "how could they just up and leave such a young child", which at the time she didn't fully understand. Her only other family was her older cousin, Novel, who she got along well with. Novel was a hard worker, focusing on his studies. Vera began looking up to him as a role model, trying to follow in his footsteps. Although Novel always wanted to join the military, Vera wanted to explore space and follow in the footsteps of her grandfather. Vera practically grew up in the planetarium, staring at stars all day and learning about different constellations, celestial navigation, and asteroids. It was a place that encouraged her tendency to feel confident and imaginative.
Arseny helped teach Vera in her studies, mostly math and science. She had a natural talent for such subjects, deemed ahead of her other students by most teachers. Vera didn't make much friends through most of her younger years, as she never felt extroverted. Though, she had Kira, a childhood best friend who the two shared similar interests and love for astronomy. The two of them could talk and spend hours together. Often watching stars late at night in a field behind the Planetarium. They weren’t perfect though, they often got in trouble, mostly due to playing pranks on others. One of their pranks landed them in trouble with the law at the age of nine. Which resulted in Novel having to bail them out of trouble and scold them for reckless behavior. Novel made Vera promise to focus on her studies rather than fooling around, possibly messing up her future. Especially since he wouldn’t be around much longer as a few months later, Novel left for military service. Vera took this pretty hard, as she struggles with the absence of others, especially family. She spent most of her days either in school or absent mindedly lost in her own thoughts. Kira was always there to cheer her up, which Vera greatly appreciated. Vera began thinking about the promise she made to Novel, knowing he was right. She had her whole future ahead of her, and pranks wouldn’t get her anywhere. Her grandfather sat her down one day, giving her advice he learned. That the world wasn’t perfect, no one was, and she didn’t have to be. He wanted her to have fun, to live her childhood, as it is such a short time and so precious. Vera held that advice closely, knowing how wise her grandfather was.
Novel returned a year and a half later. Vera, while happy to see her cousin alive, was still hurt by his departure. She tried to avoid Novel, but he was quick to sit her down. He explained that you can’t hold onto people forever and they can’t always be there for you, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care for you. The two made up, with the two even laughing over Vera saying how he was just like their grandfather. Novel began teaching Vera skills he learned in the military, if she ever needed to defend herself. She took some time to pick up the skills, often failing or not quite getting a technique. She wanted to give up, but Novel reassured her she could do it, she just needed more practice. Vera began training harder, learning and following her brother as closely as she could.
When Vera was thirteen, her grandfather passed away peacefully. This struck Vera with an indescribable feeling of grief. Vera became more reserved, blocking out her friends. Novel tried to help Vera, suggesting they move to a farm outside the city, but it only made things worse. The two of them got into an argument, resulting in Vera running away. All alone, Vera didn’t know where to go, but she knew she couldn’t go back. Finding herself in the rain on an empty road, Vera just wandered endlessly. Unbeknownst to her, Agents of The Light were watching and snuck up on her. She wasn’t prepared for the attack, even after trying to defend herself, she was no match. Vera was abducted by agents of the Light.
**Vera was later sedated and flown to Bialya, where Queen Bee gathered humans for The Reach. For nearly a week, Vera was experimented upon in the Reach base in the western Pacific, in order to test her for the Meta-gene. Once her meta-gene was triggered, Vera developed the ability to manipulate gravity. Where she was then subjected to tests relating to her ability. Not long after, she was liberated by The Team. Vera and the other abductees were taken to STAR Labs, where she later met with Black Canary. She was quiet and barely spoke, refusing to divulge anything about herself or what happened to her in the Reach base. Vera was subjected to tests once again, but this time by STAR Labs, often comparing it to the tests done by the Reach. She was placed with Virgil Hawkins, Tye Longshadow, Eduardo Dorado Jr., Asami Koizumi, and Nathaniel Tyron. Who she got along with decently, but kept mostly to herself. Her English was decent, but not perfect. Vera disagreed with wanting to find a cure for her powers, as she wanted to learn about them and what she was capable of. However, she shared their views in hating STAR Labs rules, strict schedule, and restricted freedom. After being in STAR Labs for over a month, Vera was beginning to understand her new powers. She could increase or decrease the gravity of a single object up to this point, but was practicing moving more than one. **Vera joins "The Runaways" and she's apart of all events including them**
After the end of The Reach Invasion, Vera was offered a place on the team, which she declined. Vera went back to Russia to make things right with Novel. To which the two of them made their peace, with Vera apologizing for running away and reminding him of what he told her years before. Vera began practicing with Novel on her combat skills, never wanting to become a victim again.
Vera joins the Team in early 2018 under the codename “Flux”, much to Novel’s suggestion. This was due to him believing she could do so much more for the world with her powers and would thrive in an environment with others who had abilities. When she wasn’t a superhero, she went through high school to follow scientific studies. She began learning under Ray Palmer and Karen Beecher, becoming a lab assistant.
Vera joins the outsiders during its formation in early 2019.
