That's really cute. I love the detail of the woods, they look so mysterious. And the figure of Red Riding Hood is really adorable.

AMAZING colouring technique! I love the texture of the bark, and the fur of the animals. It's so soft you would almost want to reach out to touch it. The colours of are in ominously earthy dark tones which makes the danger that lurks all the more mysterious.Great Job!

There you see, people seem to think elements can't do anything PS can, that looks wonderfull!

Thanks! I haven't felt limited by PS elements when just painting. It's only when I want to add effects or mess with channels that I wish I had a more powerful version.

I love this pic!
The look on the wolf's face if priceless, like a kid in a candy store.
And Red is all like "Ah, my furry friends, you will protect me, right?"

I like how the animals look realistic, yet not so much all at the same time. This is one of my favorite fairy tales too!

Thanks! Sadly, I only have PSelements and Painter Classic. Hopefully someday I'll upgrade them. But actually for the painting part, I don't feel limited by PSelements. It's when I try to do more graphic stuff, or mess with effects/filters/channels that I feel limited by the program. But I really only use a few natural brushes, mixed in with a couple texture and hard edge brushes when I work anyway. This was made with 3 layers -- the background sketch, the foreground trees, and Red and the foreground, which I merged 3/4s of the way through and continued to paint on.

It is funny that I just studied four different Riding Hood tales. More specifically the Brothers Grimm version: Little Red Cap.
Have you ever read the original entitled "The Story of Grandmother" - its quite disturbing (and not a kid's story).
Beautiful work though. Looks awesome. Seems representational of "Little Red Riding Hood" - the most popular version. The only thing a little off from that version is the lack of man-like gentleman features in the wolf. There are so many verisons, I think most modern verisons seem to mix "Little Red Riding Hood" with "Little Red Cap" (the one with the wood-chopper at the end). Though, the girl herself is much younger than the actual story is suppose to entail.
Aside from the confusion of story (which really is irrelevant - I just like to rant on about misconceptions), your unique sense of style is really prominant. The piece is quite beautiful. Great tone, colour, light and attention to detail (like texture et cetera).
Beautifully composed. You def deserve the DD.

I've only read the Grimm version, and perhaps, watered down versions from my childhood. But I'd be interested in reading the other versions. When I did this, I went with my idea of how Riding Hood could be. For instance, in my memory of the story (which may or may not be correct) she stops to pick flowers in the woods. But here, she's playing with the forest creatures, ala Disney. I made her younger than I think she probably really is too. I was playing with the idea of the story, not necessarily illustrating a specific one -- does that make sense?
But now I'll definitely have to hunt down all the versions. Thanks again!

Oh yes. Makes plenty of sense. That is what I figured what you were doing. And I think that is the best part about 'fairytales', folktales, fireside stories, winter stories... is that they have no original author, and they can be played with according to ones personal interpretation. And the one with the flowers is the Grimm verion (Little Red Cap) where the wolf says, "Little Red Cap, open your eyes. What lovily flowers! Why don't you look around you?I don't beleive you even hear how sweetly the birds are singing. It's so gay out here in the wood, yet you trudge along as solemnly as if you were going to school."
The original, "The Story of Grandmother" (15th Century version) will be hard to hunt down... so if you can't get a hold of it. I can try and supply it for you (scan it, and host it on photobucket or something). Just let me know.
You do beautiful work by the way.
