Description A smudgy sketch of Inspector Javert from Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables leaning on a bridge railing over the Seine. No, this is not a particularly canonical depiction of Javert's suicide, as he never contemplated using his pistol, but I liked the atmosphere of the scribble, so here it is.

Hairstyle and powerful build of course based on the excellent TAC performance of Philip Quast.

He laid some things out on the parapet before he jumped. In the 1978 movie, it is his hat and cane. In a fanfic by wraithwitch, it is also his snuff-box. In Real... was it his hat and cane? The hat will forever be a source of merriment because of that moment with the Thenardiers and the Patron-Minette. Ah, Javert. You BEAUTIFUL, beautiful, man, you. (Your kind of beauty is on the inside, hidden deep, but it is there. OH. - SO - THERE.)

His entire canon conclusion was frustrating. Oh well, I still love the Brick, and without imperfections, what's fandom for anyway?
He was definitely a very lonely man. Though, for d'aww and giggle value, I've stolen ~Meketaten 's idea for my headcanon that "the rest of the Paris police were totally Javert fanboys." I think I may have to do some doodles to that effect... ~goes sketchbunny hunting~

They surely were! In the '33/34 French version all policemen dress like him and wear sideburns. They look like a clone army

Well, canonically, I don't think he had a pistol at this point... He might have, but my brother has my copy of the brick, so I can't go check. Either way, he never sat around holding it while contemplating suicide, this picture is purely from my brain.

I think in the '58 movie he made a sarcastic comment to Marius when he was led to "execution".

Quite true. Though I suspect he got different ones once he realized he wouldn't be getting those back. He was a skilled and conscientious police officer, after all.

What amazes me the most is your professional scans! I can see all the pencil work and quality which scanners usually never give me without a fight.
Props are good, they enhance the emotion, so I like the gun

Well, I don't know how nice the scanner is, it's my Mother's. But the quality mostly comes from Photoshop, I think, because I have to mess with each one to get them right. The scanner spits them out all faded...
I'm glad the pistol has approval.

I suppose they do ^-^ More so now that I've more or less mastered the quick shading in Photoshop with Burn and Dodge, since I never hand-shade sketches, to give them a touch of depth.
