I watched The Recobbled Cut of The Thief and the Cobbler during the middle of summer. While I had a different idea before starting this, one night I began writing different lyrics to "She is More Than This" from the "Arabian Knight" version. What can be said? The lyrics portray very little to what YumYum becomes and more about things she already has but doesn't seem to realize.
So, I decided to portray something else. Basically, it goes back to the old animated movie songs (Disney pretty much) of desiring your other half. (Or in Disney's case, "One true love.") So, here YumYum does realize she has what one would consider a perfect life, but she is missing something more vital than good looks, posh settings and a life of no financial wants. Yes, she has the love of her father and is a beloved princess... but again, there is still a small desire that grows as she gets older.
Around at the end of the "song" she begins to realize just what it is she might be missing: her other half. In that moment, in all irony, she winds up seeing Tack not realizing he is the very thing her heart is looking for.
Mind you, I don't think I'm a superior lyricist or anything. I also do not hate the original song. It was just a dally I did for fun and in thought of a different concept to aim the song towards.
Sigh... details, details... This particular picture took quite some time. First there was trying to get the main structure of YumYum down. Trying to draw caricatures is a rather hard endeavor for me, apparently. The eyes, the body proportions and so forth were difficult. The details like the endless beads were a pain too.
Well, once that was done, it was scanned and I redid the outlining via computer with a mouse. With it all nice and clean the coloring began. I hate coloring gauzy material and making sure it comes out right. Man that was nuts and at times I feared I messed up in the layering. Oi. The eyelashes were a pain as well, getting the curve right with just a mouse is taxing. Coloring each individual bead and shading them was also annoying. The rest of the coloring was a bit kinder.
The background also was a pain. The roses were screencaps I took from the movie. I edited and softened them up and placed the on the skies I made up. Then it got down to deciding where to put the lyrics and so forth.
This piece took a couple of days, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Still... what a pain!
