Description Howdy doody, peeples. Just thought I'd share what I think of Christian music.

I've been really busy lately in school, but I'm pulling through. Song of the Week's coming soon...

Stay amazing, mis amigos.

Have you ever looked at the three types that the Bible talks about?  Take a look sometime, and you'll see that some of your types are kind of duplicated in relation to what the Bible actually teaches.

Thanks Brother Tom.

Do you mean the three types: psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs? I looked in Ephesians and Colossians.

Psalms are Old Testament praises to the Lord, and are not only Christian songs but also Jewish.
Hymns are just like Psalms, but they include the recognition of Jesus Christ.
Spiritual songs are, as John MacArthur explains, "...songs of personal testimony expressing truths of the grace of salvation in Christ."

In juxtaposition to the list I made:
All three types are worship.
Spiritual songs are most like personal.
Psalms are mostly like message but can be any of the three.
Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual songs can all be uplifting, because celebration in the Lord is found in all three types.
Special songs can be found in the book of Psalms and various places in the Bible. I consider special songs to be like eulogies, birthdays, love songs, etc.
"Heaven is the Face" is actually sung about a father losing his daughter.

I think the list I made covers a wide variety, and I was looking for a general illustration of the songs during our contemporary time.
How I see these important three types is that Psalms were sung in the first churches ever.
Then came hymns, which were and still are sung in churches worldwide.
Spiritual songs have always been with believers.

You know, I admire you Brother Tom... Not because you're conservative with your songs but because you want to keep to the roots of Biblical truth.
I understand the issue of music straying away from God. During the 1700s, music was strictly for the Lord. In the 2000s, we have an innumerable amount of subjects sung about. It's sad yet ear-opening.

This list was just my initial thoughts, because ever since I started listening to Christian music, I noticed that there are differences.

I know I need to read more... I'm getting hungry...

I think Psalms are probably the hardest to sing because they had to be memorized.  It was always in a kind what is known as Melodic Minor keys.  As for your designations, they are pretty close and sound enough for me.  Of a truth they are all worship.  Hymns tend to be more doctrinal and related to God' attributes or something doctrinal.  Psalms were mostly praise and thanksgiving towards God as seen in many of the Psalms.  Spiritual songs tend to be more personal.  For example my favorite:  "No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus" by Charles Weigle.  It is extremely personal of what he experienced.  At my church we tend to sing a mixture of hymns and spiritual.

Another thing about Christian music is the potential danger of mixing Satan's format of composition (Rock for example) with that is meant to be Godly.  But initially, the more we allow God to refine our thinking in all areas, the more refined we become in all areas.  As an illustration:  if I had no standards in music composition, I could say that my hitting a rock could be music.

I love Cornerstone by Hillsong United. It's one of my favorites. I listen to all types a good bit sometimes, but I think worship and personal are my favorite kind. Then message and uplifting and special, not in particular order.

It is a beautiful song. ^_^ It's the first song I participated in concert worship.

At first, I was wondering if you meant the genres of christian music but then I re-read this again. You're right though! The majority of the Christian music I have are uplifting/personal. xD And a few Special ones also!

You just had to use one of my favorite songs as examples too! \(>w<)/ Thank you for this deviation!

There are just too many songs, I felt like I had to group them. I gave it a shot, and I think it covers a lot.

Wow, really? Which one? Oh, and you're welcome. I try.

My mom and I love singing Heaven is the Face a lot. It's one of my favorites and it warms my heart. ;w;

Another one of my favorites would be "Greater" by MercyMe. That song helped me out a ton!

"Strangely Dim" by Francesca Batistelli makes my eyes water and my heart bleeeeeedddddd. And "Let the Waters Rise" by Mikeschair.

"Greater" feels like one of those campfire songs. xD I love it so much and I feel like playing that song and have a small bonfire thing going with a group of good friends. lol
