Description
The Centaur are an nomadic warrior race that lives in the endless grassy steppes and low foot hills to the north of the Imperial Realm. They are fiercely territorial and prideful, and in a constant state of war, with opposing tribal alliances fighting over the sparse resources of their homeland. Occasionally the Centaur tribes will unite under a common leader and surge south in a massive horde, raiding and pillaging deep into the Imperial heartlands.
Because of their nomadic nature and large numbers they have been increasingly difficult for the Imperial realm to conquer and subjugate. The Imperial Armies may be able to track and defeat one tribe, only for the others to evade them, or more likely, unite against a common enemy, and quickly surround and destroy the Imperial forces.
However the disunity of the Centaur and their devotion to a Warrior creed has always been their downfall. Too few Centaur's dedicate their lives to anything other than the Warrior path, shunning everything else as weakness. This has meant their society lacks any sort of structure or specialists that aren't warriors. No traders, smiths, and even precious few farmers or herders mean they lack the basic tools to build a coherent civilisation that can last for long.
As a result they have no cities, except their ancient capitol, the Sacred Bulankhorin nestled deep within the northern foothills.

I'd hardly call Chiron peaceful. He was a son of the titan-king Cronus and trained 15 separate heroes including Achillies, Jason of the Argonauts, Perseus, Theseus, and even Heracles.

I think I said that because the wiki entry stated he was so wise, unlike the Warcraft Centaur who pretty much do nothing apart from slash and burn

No, I mean according to actual Greek mythology. That's the Chiron I'm talking about.

None have ever seen a centaur woman; or is it simply that those who have seen a centaur, don't spare a second to see if its a lady?Β (given their "Hannibal is at the gates" x4 attitude, not unreasonable)
great work and cool history.

Thanks dude!
As for the Centaur woman, I think I've seen a few in World of Warcraft, they're the casters right?

(reads Mulan comment)
Mongol centaurs.
... or 'real' Dothraki Horselords.
I like.

I know it's not the most original idea. It's been done a bunch of times like in Warcraft and a few rpg's I've seen, but it seems to fit so well.
I think it just might be one of those fantasy racial stereotypes, like how most Dwarves seem to be Scottish, or how Classic Vampires tend to be Eastern European, it just kinda fits
Though saying it like that is making me worry that it might sound a bit racist... or fantasy racist :[

oooh, there's an idea: its the centauresses who go out on raids more often than centaurs do - but between the armor (of any material) and the fear they instill, nobody's noticed enough to draw pin-ups?
